N.C. State is in the midst of a huge run, and apparently has Las Vegas nervous. Lutz is probably focused on the Wolfpack at this time. They are in the weakest region; a trip to Indy is possible.

OK Ri, I should have clarified to say that while an AD will occasionally RECOMMEND a new HC retain an assistant he really likes from the previous staff, it is almost never obligatory, and specifying the new hire bring in a specific assistant from elsewhere is pretty much considered an insult. If you are referring to Eaker, I don't know if JB recommended Layer retain him or not, but I'm sure it was not a deal breaker, and keep in mind Dale had worked with Jason just a year before and thought highly of him, so he was probably on DL's short list anyway.

Why do people think we will hire a "former Coach" as new HC ?

I really haven't heard anyone predict who the new coach will be. There has been a lot of discussion about former coaches because 2 of them are among the leading candidates and there are 3 who want the job. I don't think Manley, Swift, Gibson or Hankinson have applied.

Herb Sendek just became available.

I don't know if Sendek is looking for a house with a pool, but this jumped off the page at me. 22 years as a D1 head coach and only 4 times failed to make a post season tournament; 8 NCAA appearances and 10 NIT. He has also been coach of the year in the MAC, ACC and PAC-12. All that and he is only 52.

OK, it appears Herb is Catholic. Not necessarily an automatic deal breaker, but probably safe to say it makes him a long shot.

The thing that jumped out to me is that Herb is only 52! I was surprised to see him on Sunday at the Richmond game. Coaching has not been good to him in terms of stress from what I am seeing. I have had conversations about the Liberty job with a few that work on ESPN and other TV outlets. This job is starting to be one that folks are talking about. I really hope Jeff Barber takes his time and gets a good fit for Liberty. Whoever it is I really hope they connect guys from the past with the current team.

With that being said, chances are better than average that Barber hires Meyer, or even McKay.
