That wasn't a lie. That whole deal with RD and the petition has to be one of the most unfortunate stories of Liberty athletics. It's a good thing few people know about it.

Tell me how an assistant can force out a head coach. The administration, including Jerry, Sr. gave Coach Meyer an ultimatum in the summer to win the Big South or else they were making a change. When he lost his point guard to discipline he knew he couldn't win so he quit, no one forced him out. If there was a petition it was by the players who didn't want Meyer, but so what, they nor Dunton weren't the ones making the decision. It was Chuck Burch and Jerry or Jerry alone. Jeff Meyer QUIT ON HIS OWN. Don't believe me, ask many of the supporters back then they knew what Jeff did and when he did it. If Jerry, Sr. hadn't trusted Coach D, why would he hire him in back in 2002. And I know this for a fact, if Dunton were the coach at LU, you would see the highest quality players in the history of the school.

While I think Jeff Meyer will succeed here, I want someone who hasn't coached at Liberty. This program is in shambles and we need a fresh face in here who can recruit and coach. no previous ties to Liberty. Just my personal opinion.

The Jeff Meyer-Randy Dunton saga has become a lot like the Climate Change debate. Everybody has their own facts. You brought up a few good points, but your dots are connected much differently than mine are. And if you remember, Marcus White wasn't the only player to be booted from the team going into that season. Smart move signing that petition.

That's enough talk about the Meyer-Dunton debate, we've discussed it ad nauseam for years. Let's keep this thread focused on the topic at hand.

As long as Jeff's name is linked as a possible candidate I don't see how it won't come up. It doesn't need to. But it does. It's why I am contemplating a new rule...

As someone newer here, I've gotten this sense that bringing up past coaches isn't thought of fondly. While I agree it can hijack a thread, is there somewhere here that might discuss this subject more appropriately? Just curious about the history/insider perspective on our athletics program. And what's the deal with mentioning Meyer's name repeatedly? Is he some godsend everyone wants back? Sorry for the newbie questions, just curious.

No problem. I explained 'The Rule' earlier. Scroll back for the explaination I don't feel like typing it again or looking it up

You are incorrect on so many fronts, I wouldn't know where to start. You must be kin to RD.

IMO, the reason I think Meyer would be such a home run for a program like Liberty (or 75% of the other teams in NCAA D-I) is the fact that Meyer is considered among the top assistant coaches in all basketball. Look at his resume since leaving Liberty:

1998-2001: Assistant coach to Gregg Marshall at Winthrop (2014 National Coach of the Year)
2001-2004: Assistant coach to Todd Lickliter at Butler (2007 National Coach of the Year)
2004-2006: Assistant coach to Quin Snyder at Missouri (Current Head Coach of the Utah Jazz)
2006-2008: Assistant coach to Kelvin Sampson (Current Head Coach of the Houston Rockets)
2008-Present: Assistant coach to John Beilein (Big Ten Coach of the Year 2014)

I can understand some of the animosity toward Jeff Meyer and his first stint as HC, but the fact of the matter is that he is by far the most successful coach in school history (259 wins) and has had an AMAZING list of coaches to work with since his tenure at LU. If Liberty has a chance to bring him home, they should do WHATEVER it takes to get him. I can't imagine they could get a guy with half the resume Jeff has to come to Liberty, and I'd love to see what new things he brings to the table after coaching with the guys listed above for the past 20 years.

When I saw that Mlive and the Detroit Free Press were reporting about Jeff Meyer coming to Liberty, there is obviously some truth to the discussions. Either Jeff is working for a pay raise at Michigan, or he is seriously considering coming to Lynchburg again. IMO, Liberty better not screw this up if they have a chance to get him.

I don't know if Sendek is looking for a house with a pool, but this jumped off the page at me. 22 years as a D1 head coach and only 4 times failed to make a post season tournament; 8 NCAA appearances and 10 NIT. He has also been coach of the year in the MAC, ACC and PAC-12. All that and he is only 52.

OK, it appears Herb is Catholic. Not necessarily an automatic deal breaker, but probably safe to say it makes him a long shot.

That was back when basketball games were fun and we packed the gym. I still remember Jerry Sr. banging on the vents getting the crowd stirred up.
