I really respect both guys and Jeff has been first class with me each time I've met him. I was just thinking out loud that he really hasn't fired anyone other than dunton that I know of. That goes to show overall how solid the athletics are. Basketball has been the consistent black sheep. Now we may not have met our expectations in some sports but nowher near this.
And he actually didn't fire RD. Remember his contract expired. I know, tomato tomAto
I will let these pass due to historical context. However, Barber didn't hire him either

Layer is a good person, but y'all need a change up there.

I still maintain some D-1 school will pull the trigger on Schertz down at Lincoln Memorial and hit the jackpot. Incredible building of a program. He would be an ideal fit in the BSC with his previous work with Lundy at HPU. Would he fit in with the LU culture? Who knows, but $300K could make a lot of people adjust for sure.

So in regards to the above, one of the big things is bad coaches who have great talent (Hewitt at George Mason, Parnell at DePaul, Gregory at Georgia Tech). I can't pinpoint if Layer has actually recruited the talent to win the Big South and can't coach to save his life, or a good coach who is a horrendous recruiter. Needless to say, we also aren't getting better playing 4 sub-DI schools. At this point it won't surprise me if we have 7 sub DI teams on the schedule next season.

I think that it is a combination of both. Recruiting is the Achilles' heel, but strategically and tactically we are not great either.

If you don't think Seth leaving (others as well) followed by RMK leaving set back recruiting a long ways, then you just aren't paying attention.

You could work for the Obama administration! How many years until you can no longer blame past coaching staff's? In 3 years you should have the majority of the team made up of your recruits playing your style. You should at least be showing some improvement
At this point quit blaming someone else's staff

Who is in charge of advertising? I think now is a great time to make Atlas Van Lines a team Liberty sponsor. Hell, I am in sales and could broker that deal in a month.

The link below covers all the basis. Remember if its Christian it should be better and since the school has an endless budget (except for hiring TV analysts for football and basketball games). Jeff should be able to hire someone who can win here. Outside of the backdoor politics that it is going to take to get out of the God awful Big South, this should be his #1 priority.

With that said I hope everyone has a great Christmas. I asked my wife to get me tickets for the First round of the Men's Basketball Tournament on March 3rd (presented by www.visitmyrtlebeach.com ) so I can enjoy the 6/11 seed game. I can't think of a better Christmas present!!!!!

Why do fellow fans feel like we can buy wins? You can't throw money at a program and expect greatness. Sure, programs without a financial commitment will struggle. But this idea that we should win because we have a big budget is just pure stupidity.

Also, as for those of you who want McKay back or a big name coach, I'm going to call you out. You're all cowards. The reason you want that is because it's a safe option. You like to feel as if you have some control over the program, and having a coach with a familiar name gives you that security. If we go out and hire a big name coach, then congratulations, you can have your security. But just know that other schools, who actually took a risk and were creative with their coaching search, will surpass us.

Also, Seth Curry is not the reason that we are struggling. Good hell, the decision made by a 19 year old, changed the fate of our basketball program for 6 years? He is the one responsible? At some point, the insecure girl has to move on.

Layer is terrible. He is one of the worst coaches in our school's history, across all sports. His son, who wouldn't start for MOST D2 programs, sees playing time in almost every game. The program is an absolute joke.

Stop blaming the kid who was overlooked in high school, received an offer from one of the most prestigious basketball schools in the country and one of the best coaches in college basketball history. He took an offer that VERY few will ever have the opportunity to take. Good for him.

The administration needs to do their due diligence with this upcoming hire. Its not about getting McKay back (which would be really stupid) or getting a name hire (which is also stupid). Its about getting the best coach that we can that fits Liberty. Leverage our resources to get a large pool of great candidates, turn over every rock, and make a great hire.

You need to watch more tape. I'd take any of those Hanky teams over this one

I second that. Hankinson's teams were no slouch in talent. That much was obvious. He just couldn't stay out of their way at times. A textbook case of too smart for his own good and unable to connect. Really nice guy!

I'm trying to think of the name of the guard who transferred from WVU. That kid was one of the most athletic guards we ever had, SCAR included!
