I transferred in sophomore year.

Aced the project. I moved the bowl in Boise to Charleston and named it the Robert H. Brooks Hooters Bowl.

If Lynchburg grew at the rate Hampton Roads did over the past 50 years, it COULD happen...not Liberty per se, but Lynchburg City.

But yeah, that's not going to happen.

You may have never seen how folks respond to BJ's posts. I chortle audibly.
Oh, I've seen how folks respond to BJ... From what I know of him, he seems like an analytical, detailed dude. Given the fact that he does writing, he has to be. Some of you all know him personally, thus he gets more flack than most... He's still a cool dude though. 8)

BLESSED how was that last sentence not respectful? I pointed out you did not understand what it took to put on a Bowl or major event. You agreed with that.
And it is always a good idea to check with me 8)
Haize, I was going to consult with you on going to the darkside  , especially after the Sun Belt decided not to expand.

Liberty appears to be headed to FBS sooner rather than later, but you never know. :P

Detroit has really gone down the drain. It's a shame too, but high crime rates will do that to a city. I'm actually surprised the ACC agreed to participate in that bowl game. I understand the Big 10, but the ACC?

I've heard Lynchburg is a great place to live and work, but it is not for everyone. I've read that through the grapevine (from Lang's blogs) that some players do not adjust very well to the environment. That's to be expected since Liberty is a different place than most and is not everyone's cup of tea.

Lynchburg is a great place to live and work. So is the town I came from in California.

Neither could host a bowl game though.

The city of Lynchburg (not just Liberty) would need to see significant growth before it would even come close to being able to support the logistics of a bowl game.

This doesn't even address some of the other issues that would arise that would likely not make Liberty a super welcome host for out of town guests.

A game like that game might as well be called the Protest Bowl... UAB would be protesting the U of Alabama BOT and Texas State would be protesting the Sun Belt commish for not having enough bowl slots.

A match-up that could be interesting is Georgia Southern vs. ODU.

Why? Georgia Southern had a great year and ODU due to their proximity. The game would have no problem in selling out because both fanbases travel well.

There are schools out there who would go to a bowl game anywhere, including Lynchburg, VA. I have traveled in 26 states and 13 countries in my lifetime. Lynchburg could host a bowl game.

But before we host a bowl game, I'd like to see a good FBS team come to Williams Stadium for a regular season game.

Remember back in 1971, when Dr. Falwell said he was going to start a college ? People laughed at that. Look what we have today on the mountain.

Sweet Mother Mary Joseph and Cousin Clyde. No. It. Can't.
Do some research people! How much guarantee money does each school get?
How many hotel rooms would be needed for both teams and its fans?
How easy is it to get to Lynchburg? We only have a handful of non stop flights to Charlotte people.
What Conference Affiliation match up would we have? How much does that cost?
How much is the City of Lynchburg willing to lose to host it?

As for the ND reference he also said he would see it in his life time

And I have you by 15 States and we are about even on Countries

That's nice...but before an FBS team comes to Williams Stadium, we'll have to be FBS. And no, Lynchburg could not host a bowl game. If there is going to be one hosted in VA, its going to be by ODU and Norfolk/Hampton Roads. There's a reason why bowl games aren't hosted in Charlottesville and Blacksburg, for which the PH spelled out so eloquently.

Last I checked the students were gone during Bowl Season(except the ones taking 2-4week intensive kids). We have tons of empty dorms :). Doesn't Univ of Phoenix Sponsor a bowl?? What about LUO??

UofP is a for profit entity. LUO is not
How many fans want to go to a Bowl Game and stay in a dorm?
Even if that happened, who would manage the open dorm spaces? Students still have stuff in them. Revelers would certainly cause damage etc. which leads to....
Would LU rent them out to the City/Bowl Entity? That again leads back to how much money is the city looking to lose to host?

Nice try, but. Still no dice.

I actually had thought about that too. I originally thought that maybe some sort of timeshare thing could be arranged. However, it would open up a major can of worms trying to police the property.

Who would be in charge of managing property? LU, the students paying room and board for the semester, the campus police? Even if that was settled, who going to clean up afterwards? You definitely want a cleaning service company to clean up afterwards..at least I would.

This leads us back to the hotels, motels, bed-and-breakfast lounges in the surrounding areas being able to accommodate traveling tourists. From what I could gather, Liberty and Lynchburg is not ready for that type of traffic... Well, at least no time soon.

It will never happen, but if it did, it would have to be:

The Old Time Gospel Hour Bowl Presented by Hobby Lobby Powered by Chick-Fil-A.

Tickets would be 40% off everyday and everyone who attended would get a Jerry Falwell bobblehead doll and a chicken sandwich. Just don't schedule the game on a Sunday.

I think Liberty could pull it off.

Hold up let's take it to the next level..... Ask Bedford and Franklin county to offer $$$ and The city of Lynchburg could provide shuttle services to Moneta/Wirtz/Burnt Chimney aka Smith Mnt lake Region. The lake has 1000's of Vacant property's in December. Who doesn't love the great atmosphere down at the Lake. Restaurants and the new Brewery is awesome!! If Franklin chooses to be largest donor we call it the Moonshine Bowl....
#471980
I do believe they open up the dorms for graduation weekend so its not overly farfetched to do something similar, especially since the game would take place while the students are on break. they have people come in and clean up the dorms for that as well
#471982
BJ, for graduation weekend, aren't the dorms empty of students? For a bowl game in December or January, the students' belongings would still be in the dorms. Big difference!

That's why, for example, the guests at Winterfest have to stay in hotels or local churches, NOT in the dorms.
#471985
Who cares!!! If someone told me "Hey get your stuff out of dorm 23 on the hill over the holidays and will give you a $200 kick back check towards your tuition" I'd have filled my truck up with all the worthless junk items I had in my possession as a 19 year old and drove home for winter break with dreams of candy canes, Santa Clause and money for dates during spring semester.....
Are we back?

We back!
