This has been a source of constant discussion down here the past couple of weeks. While today's announcement certainly puts pressure of the league to respond in some fashion, adding two teams of little value is not generally viewed as the answer. Several Big XII sources are leaking that Cincinnati & Memphis are alleged the two schools considered to have the best shot. BYU, Colorado State (who just announced a new $200M on-campus stadium yesterday) and Houston are the others in the discussion.
No one in any of the Big XII circles is enthusiastic about any of the available options. They missed out on poaching ACC schools by dragging their feet and now are left with a bunch of undesirable candidates.
I honestly believe that they will hold steady at 10 for at least another year. Frankly I think this puts the Big XII as unlikely allies with the G5 schools in order to expand the playoff to at least 8 teams so they won't get worked again down the road.
