Here is how the season started in 2003-2004. We were 3-12 one game into conference play. As I recall, fan support (attendance) was pretty good. This year, much better start, lots of home games and nobody's coming :?

Nov 21-L vs. Miami-Ohio 55-71
Nov 23-L at William & Mary 64-91
Nov 27-W vs. Canisius 65-48
Nov 28-L at Duke 47-76
Nov 29-L vs. Seton Hall 47-65
Dec 5-W vs. Va Intermont 90-65
Dec 8-L vs. Arkansas State 63-64
Dec 11-W vs. Chattanooga 85-69
Dec 13-L at Iowa State 58-76
Dec 18-L at Old Dominion 66-87
Dec 28-L at Arizona 91-107
Dec 30-L vs. Valparaiso 54-72
Jan 3-L at Coastal Carolina 65-67

Can't compare the two because the season before was completely different.

I bet you the games were advertised better than three foot signs in two or three places on campus and a goofy looking red thing at the Vines.

the season before that wasn't very good, and the promotion wasn't nearly what it is today for that season (sad huh?)

I remember that Arkansas State game...some kid nailed some fade away 3.....killer

that game was promoted somewhat because the guy who donated the money for the Vines Center was in the house....

Ok, I got no excuse. I'm doing what I can. One person not getting paid can't do it all though.

yeah....but if any of us were that one person don't you think any one of us would be doing a better job??? there is no excuse for the poor promotion...none whatsoever

I had to read that five times and it still makes no sense but I get what you're trying to say.

I just know that it's not hard to paint a banner and hang it up.

I know it's not hard to put a memo on the splash page that says, "Basketball Game Tuesday at 7pm. Wear Red."

Can we work with student life and have game days be Red Days for class dress?

These are the things the Student Flames Club should be doing.

yeah, sorry i just read what i wrote...and i think i confused myself....

the student flames club is just like any other thing the athletic department has started in the past that is a good idea...it has gone unattended and ignored.....i am not part of this group simply because i lost faith in the athletic department....i was getting ready to join come basketball season, but it seems to be dead now....

anyways, i don't think student life has anything to do with the wear red days....i don't know who you would go through.....

They didn't abandon it, they just didn't run it the right way during football season. I'm going to keep my mouth shut other than that but when I stepped down from leadership before the Glenville State game I told Jeff Barber that "I don’t feel like the Student Flames Club is going in the direction I envisioned it when I e-mailed Jeff back in March. It’s going in the complete 180 degree opposite direction."

Before anyone says anything, yes, I am bitter at the way the club turned out. I put a ton of time and money into that this summer and at the beginnig of the fall only to see it fall apart.

If we continue to play this way into conference the students will continue to come, and will begin to make some noise. I just know they will. They did for all 4 of my years here, they will this year. I wish they would cheer now, but they aren't. I hope Dunton and the team just realize they need to be good enough to win without that big home court advantage.

I still think they will be loud come conference play.

SJ, why don't you move your group to the middle of the student section. With you guys taking up the whole first row, and standing you will cause the people behind you to stand. Thus, maybe just maybe, they will cheer.

The reason behind that is it's not "my" group. They have been there for a while and they consider that their spot. I sat with them because they were the only group that was going to do something during the game.

somehow I see his secretary being suddenly very busy with scheduling all his NEW, critically important lunch meetings for the next 5 years.

This goes back to my postings on the Longwood Thread. The reason that season was attended so well is because we did promote the tar out of it. That was the first year that, my team here at Prototype, was in control on making sure butts were in the seats. We spent over $7,500 on giveaway items that year. We setup tables in the Cafe, hung 100 posters around campus every week, put table tops on the tables in the cafe, gave away 25 game cubes, TVs, etc...

I think we need a mix of that. LU cannot afford to do that every year. LU already puts a lot of cash into Athletics with no chance of recovering any of it. But there is a fine line. I would think That Kevin Keys, feels the same way I do. There is just not enough time or money to do this right at this point. We do zero promotions for Liberty now, and that means a lot less people to pull from to put together promotions and events.

The point being - the growth of the student body alone should have affected the crowd size, but it hasn't. The only reason for that to happen is a lack of School PRIDE. Period. End of Story. Students just don't care anymore at Liberty. When I was in school it was cool to see Liberty get the exposure - to be included with the big schools, to compete against those big programs. We saw it as another way to solidify that our school was just as good, or better, than yours. Now were complacent. LU is the biggest Baptist University and it's no big deal to play East Carolina at home - "just another team". It's sad, because every game in the Vines is broadcast to over 2.5 million homes and everyone sees the lack of support. How great would it be to an Alumni, turn on your satellite in Texas or California and see 8,000 fans crammed into the Vines Center. Think of what that excitement would do for all the programs at LU and LU as a whole. How great would it be to see the Docs vision come true - when you mention Notre Dame and BYU and Baylor - that instantly people think of Liberty. Is Notre Dame known as an academic University? Known for there politicians or scientist that have graduated from there - NO. People know Notre Dame because they are the Catholic College that competes on a very high level in the World of Athletics.

so what's the quickest way to develop this school pride? A marquee win. The average student is not bright enough to realize that BYU, Seton Hall, and Oral Roberts would all be significant wins, so we have no choice but to beat Florida. So let it be written, so let it be done.

Alot of people recognize Seton Hall b/c they are big east. A big win could bring more fans.....I think the OU blowout might of have given people mixed feelings

I really wish we could play that game again. Maybe we don't win but I really think we can compete with them this year. Us being better than expected and them basically rebuilding.

Anybody know why we aren't playing Arkansas State and Dickey Nutt this year.

Arkansas St. is a tough team to beat but are not on anyone's radar so if you lose to them it looks like a bad loss and if you beat them or play them well, people that follow the program won't care. 3 seasons ago Ark St beat us on a buzzer beater with a shot from the corner and then the following year down there we got destroyed. Dickey Nutt is a great name though and a pretty decent coach. I know you guys remember when he spoke at TRBC and chapel the weekend of that game. He is a real character. Maybe now that we are headed in the upward direction again, they may show up on the schedule. Who knows.

Yeah, I remember that. It was hilarious when he spoke in Convo. Everybody laughed when Dickey Nutt was up on the screen. Might sound immature, but pretty funny.
