Last night the face of Liberty basketball, Larry Blair, became the all-time leading scorer in Liberty D1 history. Did anyone know he was close? Did anyone not on this board or not associated with the team have any clue of that? He's now in 5th place all-time in the Big South. I have two issues:

a) This wasn't even recognized. They didn't even make an announcement that said, "With those points, Larry Blair passes Peter Aluma on the all-time Liberty Flames Division 1 scoring list." That would've been the easiest thing to do. After all this kid has done for the school the past four years and you can't even make that announcement? C'mon now, we're better than that.

b) This is a big deal. HYPE THIS UP! All week we should've been hearing about Larry trying to break the all-time Division 1 record at Liberty. This would've gotten kids out to the game. People like to see records broken. I'm almost willing to bet that had that been marketed and promoted the right way we would've had at least 500 more kids at that game last night, if not more.

If someone gives me a good reason why neither one of these things were done then I will apologize and shut my mouth, but until then, I think this was a big mistake.

Once again, you're on this board and associated with the team so you have a reason for knowing.

I thought it might be recognized. On other occasions, players have been given the ball under similar circumstances. I didn't think much about it until SCAR began bringing it up, and I haven't thought it through to know the "why's and the wherefore's" but I do think you have a point. Maybe they plan on doing something before the next home game...

The next home game is December 21 when none of the students will be there. We have 3 or four home games before the students come back. That can't be the excuse.

Jon is right. The game should have been stopped and a ball should have been given to him with the record and his parents who were there should have been brought out. It was an oversight. With that said, he has other milestones that should be recognized down the road. This however was a missed opportunity to market and to acknowledge a major accomplishment. I am not sure who is responsible to make sure these things happen though.

To quote the classic video game, Joe Montana Football: "What a mistake!"

SJ,

I can't believe I didn't think of this. This was a HUGE! oversight. It could have been promoted out the wazoo all week as well. Big mistake. They should definitely still do something to recognize this.

I'm sure they will do something later in the season, but they missed out on the chance to get 500-1000 more kids out to this game. If you get them excited the last home game before break, that excitement will carry over break. They won't follow the team so if we lose a few games they won't know. We have a home game the first weekend back and they would show up because of the excitement from last night. What do I know though, I'm only a student.

Its not even like there is an anouncement on the LU page. If anything it should be posted on the front screen, and all that hype they could have done would have done wonders for attendance. That however would still not have gotten me to the game somebody really wanted to give me a Christmas Gift, so that night was gone. No regrets though :D

You may have had plans but how many kids went to Movies10 or played Halo in their room last night? Those kids would've come to the game had they known they could've experienced history.

O Im not saying it wouldnt have. LU really botched this one up, bc this COULD have been something very special, and it would have helped out alot if there was even a hint of Blair breaking a record. Im just saying I couldnt have been there anyway.

Interesting that it wasn't brought up by anyone.

If they would've hyped this up like it should've been and simply taken a split second to acknowledge it, not even a ceremony, just acknowledge it, I guarantee that there would've been a standing ovation and either a "Larry" chant or an "LB" chant. He's worked his butt of four 3 and a half years so far, he deserves to get recognized for that. They screwed it up bad.

hahaha.. yea right. the only chants LU fans know is "put in russell", "tyler baker", and "we want ohman". it would be amazing for people to come out and actually want to watch the team.

The more I think about this, the more it irks me. I hope some plan to make up for this is revealed very soon.

I don't think "manager" is that far off in this sense. I know we have loyal hard core fans, but a friend of mine was at the game on Saturday and he said the crowd is rather tame, and it seems like they are there to "socialize" as he put it.

Not calling you or your groupies out "SJ", I know you are the real deal, but by and large, the fans aren't what they were the year we won the big south, or even how they were during the Aluma days. I know a lot of the reason has to be that the last couple years were down in terms of wins. Hopefully the fans start to get into the game more.

I think this team will be better than the team that won the Big South a couple years back. Winthrop is also much better though.

I'm the same way. It's almost to the point it's making me angry that our people completely overlooked something that big.

We were 25 feet from you and chanted different things the entire night.

Another thing I seem to recall is a student suggesting some type of pep rally deal where we teach the students the traditions and organize things to do during games. Something about letting them know who we were playing, letting them know if it was a rivalry game or something like that. I wonder what happened to that?
