I don't see where Jerry said that he wasn't going to build 3 more large dorms? Is that true? So we will have this one big one and then a bunch of small ones? I hope that's not true and thy follow-through with original plan of building all 4 with field in middle.

I explained what the current plan appears to be in an earlier post in this thread. There will be one additional dorm almost identical to Commons I, and then several smaller buildings, which appear to be about 4-5 stories high. That's all an educated guess based on the pictures of the model JFJR shared, which clearly show just one additional 9-story dorm (i.e., two in total), and then several of a different type around half that height. I would imagine the goal is to create multiple types and price tiers of housing without creating too much of an "urban" feel (i.e., insanely high density), the way six 9-story buildings clustered together might have.

Based on the information we have, there will still be a large lawn/field running through the middle of the area as before.

it was my understanding that they would demolish the rest of the dorms on the circle to fit 2 more and then the ones next to the softball field for the 4th

BC gonna go XTREME on yo ashes if you don't start paying attention

in other news; looking at these screen shots from the cams- there are parts of campus exposed now that haven't seen daylight since the late 70's/early 80's

Uh how much more attention do you expect me to pay? As much as I enjoy being the Master Plan Oracle, I do have other responsibilities.

As for this…

This is completely inconsistent with every version of the plan I have seen, from the original plan announced in Fall 2012, to the updated plan shown in JFJR's model shots. Sorry, but unless your information is newer than all that (i.e., this month), it's wildly inaccurate.

Now, since I don't expect there will be any significant developments until Monday at the earliest, I'm going to go do systems analysis homework. Study

Oh. My apologies. Under quite a bit of stress lately so I've been a little testy. Carry on.

Since I'm here for a moment, I might as well point out to everyone that Liberty filed a building permit request for Commons II today. Their in-house Construction Management Associates, Inc. is listed as the contractor. That camera on top of Commons I should provide a great view over the coming months.

Saw an announcement that the Keyhole parking lot will be permanently closed tonight, to make way for Commons II. I've not heard any specific completion date for the building just yet, but I have a feeling it's Fall 2016. Based on the just-slightly larger Commons I taking 20 months under extreme pressure, I don't see Commons II taking just over half that and being ready for Fall 2015. But we'll see what they ultimately say.

(I am assuming Commons II is the second 9-story tower, based on various evidence including the closure of the Keyhole lot.)

Liberty University News Service has published articles on the new LaHaye Event Space, and the Astronomical Observatory's new telescope for those interested.

Expecting to be able to pick up a copy of the Fall 2014 Liberty Journal before the week is out, unless their publication schedule has been delayed. If any construction news is contained therein, I'll get it up here.

Here's another angle from @branson_tyler. Complements the library nicely. Last I checked, they planned to build a canopy over the Vines Center doors on that side as well. Not sure whether that is still on tap.

Seems like this topic is pretty much dead until the university deigns to offer us fresh news. Still, there was a minor update in the Liberty Champion today that I thought was worth posting. The article has some more details on the DeMoss expansion (now called the "Student Center"). Also, it sounds like the Science Hall will be completed in two phases, the first opening in January and the rest in March. The Center for Music and the Worship Arts is on a similar timeline, but for Fall 2015. The biggest news in the article is that the Residential Commons is going to start concurrent construction, with Commons III work beginning in June 2015, presumably long before Commons II is completed. May have something to do with the fact that they allowed a massive enrollment surge to fill up every bed on campus this semester even with Commons I completed.
