they already have it there on the screens for staff and there are a lot of people there (on wed)...so that seems the most logical, just have Freshman go in there and watch it on the screens
Not a bad idea, either.

This is hopefully many years down the road but what if they built a new one behind/next to davids place and revamped the parking lot next to it? Ive always though the area would be good just to have some sort of building. But before anything else REDO THE CIRCLE!!! the whole semester weve had a toilet that leaks every other day, our hall has flooded multiple times from the bathroom(the drain pipe in the middle of the bathroom will occasionally shoot water about a foot high), and my A/C has broken twice. So as I cool down it seems like just every building minus the big blue room in DeMoss is just not being taken care of. A new look to the Vines plus upkeep would be great!!

LU has always had problems in upkeep of it's facilities. it's just not good business to do this. just go to the lahaye student center, and that is a prime example.

about 3 or 4 years ago in Dorm 11 we had that drain start shooting out something, but it wasnt water. I can only describe it as looking like an attachemnt to the play-doh factory. You know the one where you push it through the grate and it makes different shapes... I went down the hall to the bathroom for a while after that one.

For years I have suggested that we turn Vines into a Church/Convo/Concert Hall and build an arena like ODU, UVa or Maryland. Something in two stages... Something like 7500 seats in a lower bowl with the potential to add an upper deck that would add 7500 for when we might need it down the road. Or for that matter we could build the whole thing and drape it off until we need the Upper Deck.

It would need a bunch of luxury suites since that is where the big money is made nowadays. It would also need to have a large floor space with retractable seating. That way you could have circuses, tractor pulls, Disney on Ice and things that could generate money outside of athletics.

If built right, it could also have practice space, office space, training space and weight room space like Winthrop, UVa, etc... something Vines is lacking in. Not to mention, if you built it at David's Place, you could have a good bit of parking on site as well. I feel like I am back in Drafting Class in H.S. Someone get a slide rule and a compass... let's draw this baby up.

HMO, you are in charge of fundraising... do you think you can come up with 100 million or so to get this started? Chris, maybe you can get us a name sponsor... News and Advance Arena. Maybe SMOOTH and SCAR can write a check and take care of the whole thing... I'll get some estimates ;-)

Parking at the Vines is the worst of any arena I have ever seen in my life.

I am a little surprised by all of the negative comments made on this board about how bad the Vines Center is. I have been to their to visit and I have been to a few basketball and volleyball games and I have to say that it is a nice facility. Maybe not state of the art as you all say but much nicer than the glorified high school gyms that the rest of the big south teams play in. The only issue that I have or have a reason to complain about is the product that LU puts on the floor at game time or the lack thereof. It has been a few years and a lot can happen as far as neglected maintenance issues that are spoken of and I guess that most of you live in Lynchburg so your comments are justifiable. I have been to a few of the mid major college arena's in my time and I would still have to rate the Vines Center as very good. Maybe not ODU, VCU, or UVA good but good non the less

Vines will alway lack atmosphere. The walkways always reminded me of walking through some kind of alley, and the roof in the middle is hideous. I was always afraid that thing would break loose. How sweet would it be if we had a scoreboard that hang from the middle.

We could just take out the dome, add more seats and then make it a giant circus tent like Radford

yes indeed. get me an estimate fsn....if SCAR and i do this we will change the name to "Brotha's Court at the Vines Center" how is that?? :D serously, if i had the money, it would already be done, but the place can be upgraded without tearing it down. let's face it, we are not packing out the place, so we do not need anything bigger.

If we could just get Scar and Smooth to start tithing then it'll be paid for. But seriously...I see JF and JB getting on the fundraising trail in about 3 to 4 years...for right now TRBC will serve for the overflow for convo, and there's really no pressing need for anything more, only b/c of convo, the moment we sell out dialogue will start the following day with the donors

Steve, your right, there are a lot of negative comments on here about the Vines...but I think that's just the nature of this board...why point out the things your already doing right. But like I said before we need to keep in mind the age of the Vines and remember back to the first 5 years of it being the premiere arena in the BS...heck it's still in the middle of the pack and thats saying something

Middle of the pack? I actually have it as #2 behind Winthrop Coliseum. Radfords place if probably more functional and So is VMI. Actually VMI's place seems like a throwback gym but it is set up nicely. Not a bad seat in the place. CSU, Coastal, HPU, UNCA all play in high school gyms

guys it is nothing negative, it is fact. it was a premier facility and with some proper upkeep, it still can be. when you have an arena being used so much and the maintenance is not done, it is a poor reflection on the univeristy physical plant, or whoever is in charge of the facility. i would say it is 2 or 3, but don't you think HMO that it needs work? do you not think it is embarrassing that we have broken and missing seats? and that our concessions are a joke. this is part of a quality experience at any arena. though VMI's cameron hall seat only 5,000 it is very functional, has more than one open concession stand, and you do not see broken or missing seats. i would put LU at #3 behind winthrop and VMI.

of course! I was just saying there's no point in talking about all the things that the Vines is doing right, b/c that's expected...I think the Neg's should be brought to light....believe me I'm with you smooth, there are things at the vines that need serious help...anytime you don't think so just look at the top of the blue section and that lonely row that match's all the other seats so well
