For what it's worth the Vines Center is getting an interior overhaul. Seats and aisles are being reconstructed and the seating will be @ 9400+ now.

Vines Center interior reconstruction

Several renovations are taking place inside Liberty’s basketball arena, the Vines Center. All of the seats have been removed in order to repave steps and walkways. Handrails and floor lighting are being added to the walkways to improve safety. New seats will replace the old ones and aisles are being reconfigured to add 1,400 additional seats, which will help accommodate the growing student body. A new LED lighting system is being installed to reduce energy cost and consumption. The building’s acoustics underneath its dome are also being redone to improve sound quality. The arena hosts a plethora of concerts, seminars, and events throughout the year, including Convocation and some Campus Church services. In addition, a new sound and light grid is being installed that will save time and cost in supporting these events.

Exactly. The additional seating is 100% for convo. The other improvements, such as sound and lighting, will benefit basketball as well, but are more needed for convo and special events like concerts.

Looks sharp. Are any of the seats red? Would have been pretty sweet if they went with alternating sections of blue and red seats

That lighting will be great to hide empty seats.

Eliminating most of the red seats also hides the empties.

For those of you with churches or any other larger auditoriums, if someone suggests red theater seating in either a new build or remodel object heartily. The red highlights the empty seats and makes a nice sized crowd look small. Always lean toward dark colors.

Does the lighting now have the capability of being covered to make it dark in the arena during team intros? That always creates a great effect in NHL/NBA/Big time college basketball games.

It should since it isn't halogen but LED. New lighting system, new sprinkler system, new (kinda) seating, new sound system and a soon to be Dunkin Donuts being relocated from the circle to the Vines. Lots of upgrades from what I can tell.

YOu would think that a certain set of lights would be able to just be turned off instead of covered up.
