Right...I forgot about that...the second game since the aforementioned infamous game in Williamsburg. anyway, this trip better go tons better than the last time I watched them in Norfolk as they capped off the worst season in school history

BJ really must have quite the list of people he hates on this board...

You're safe though Jon, don't worry, he loves you!

I agree. There is plenty to clean up in all aspects of our game against UNC. But if we can do that during these next couple of games and stay injury free for the most part, we can beat every team on our schedule. I am not confident that this will happen, though.

"Playoffs? We're talking about playoffs?"

It's week 2... it's like those ESPN commercials attempting to get me hyped for something that's over four months away.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts succinctly. Not that you stole them from me, but I will steal from you. :)

Unfortunately I had some family issues come up so I didnt get to UNC. I will effort a Norfolk state preview tonight or tomorrow. I'm also emailing David Hall at the Virginian Pilot for some questions. (probably will have something from Lang on him later in the week)

There have been several references to Lynden Trail the past few days. He was told by Will Muschamp that he wasn't good enough to dress out for the Gators but as soon as he left Florida he has been a force to be reckoned with by opponents.

Here's a short clip from ESPNU ...

And here are some highlights from last season including some right out of the gate from playing us:

Note: the last NSU-Liberty game was in 2012, not last season when Trail was a Junior.

Trail is a beast. He was just named the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Defensive Performer and Linebacker of the Week and the Batchelor Pad's HBCU Defensive Player of the Week according to the Norfolk State website. We have the ability and schemes to contain Trail's playmaking ability, but he also has the skills to singlehandedly wreck our entire offense if we are not careful. Trail and Backus (CCU) are the best individual defensive players that we will face all season; of those two, Trail is probably #1.

We should not sleep on Terrance Ervin and the offense either. They have an unorthodox offense and enough athletes to create problems for defenses. Our defense plays disciplined for the most part, so we should be OK in this aspect.

The game will come down to our offense minimizing turnovers and containing Trail. If we do that, we blow them out. If we don't and the game is close in the 4th, it spells trouble for us.

Nothing against Josh because he did have a bit of a rough game, but that is unusual and he will be better this week. However, I would like to see Stephon Masha become a permanent part of our offense in some capacity. I have always maintained the best way to win at our level is to have a multiple threat QB and run the option. It would certainly be a good change of pace and I believe we have the athletes to pull it off. Fight On.

I agree with getting the ball in your best athlete's hands as well. One thing I think Josh has lacked is a really good QB who can push him in practice, and I think Masha can be just that if given the chance.

good stuff from LANG

like these 2:
LANG wrote: Gill said there might be a change in the kickoff team, specifically involving the man actually taking the kicks. Freshman Avery Echols handled both kickoffs and extra points last week, and Shane Blanchard will get a look at kickoffs this week.
LANG wrote: Defensive coordinator Robert Wimberly raved about the play of safety Gary Sampson ...

“Sampson still brings more as far as the IQ side to the table,” Wimberly said. “The interception he got, that was all instinct. He baited that quarterback. He does things that I can’t coach. It’s remarkable how he can communicate the game to you on the sideline. He sees the game. A couple of calls that I changed, he had some ideas at halftime, him and [Jacob] Hagen. That’s invaluable.”

Not only did Sampson not participate in most of camp, it was his first start as a true sophomore. There is plenty of development to look forward to with him, for sure.

A great player should only need himself to compete with.
