Where did you get those stats anyways?
It's a secret

I know someone who was at the game. Was able to verify Towns' stats with a simple twitter search.

Losing by 20 stinks, but as far as the individual matchup goes, that is actually quite encouraging when you consider that we are talking about a 7 foot 245 beast who will likely be in the NBA less than 2 years from now.

Just discovered that in 2012 Towns played for the Dominican National team as a 16 year old under Caliperi. Wouldn't be surprised if he took the gig just to recruit this kid. He qualified for the team because his mom is a Dominican citizen. Good chance he had never been here before he joined the team.
Naturalizing players happens a lot in FIBA. Asian countries are "notorious" for it. Here's an article from last summer that outlines a whole slew of naturalized players for the Asian national teams. http://ph.sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--me ... 49442.html

But did he claim his Dominican nationality before he turned 16 (which requires a passport claiming his DR nationality with a date of issue prior to his 16th birthday)? If not, then he is considered a naturalized player under FIBA rules.

Shoot? The entire mixtape (well, almost) is dunks, just like all the other ones we have seen, with 1 or 2 jump shots and a block or 2 stuck in there. For all we know, those are the only 2 jumpers he has made all year. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited as can be to have this kid coming to play for us, and I do hear he can shoot a bit as well, but you wouldn't know it from watching that.

I'm with you oldflame. Kid seems to be very athletic and that is something we have missed on the mountain for a while, however I feel some of you are getting a little bit to carried away. His tape does not show me anything other than he is a 6'8" kid who is athletic and can dunk. He does seem to have a lot of potential and that is something to be excited about.

I wouldn't say nothing. His top banner is still a picture of the Vines and he still describes himself as a Liberty signee. He also tweeted on 6/11 that it was his last day of school, which could certainly explain why he isn't in Lynchburg yet.

Edit: Having said that, bballfan84 now says he is not coming and his sources have proven invariably to be reliable. Hopefully after he preps or goes to JUCO Stavian will still want to come here because he has talent and seems like a kid who would fit in at LU.

Have they changed the rules regarding eligibility of JUCO transfers? In the past if the athlete did not qualify out of HS, they needed to either complete their associate degree or sit out a year on transferring, which would means if Stavian goes to a JUCO, he could not play for a 4 year school til 2016-17. We have had some, like Retic, who attended one year of JUCO, transferred, and were eligible immediately, but they had qualified on graduating from HS.

True. The rule Did Not Change. If you do not qualify for your freshman season and go JUCO you have to earn your AA degree before you can qualify to play DI. The only way to play DI after 1 year is if you qualified out of high school.

It could be a better option for us if he went to a postgrad prep school program for a year. By doing that, if he can get things squared away to qualify, he still has 4 years of eligibility. The down side is you still have to get a qualifying SAT or ACT score, and some kids just struggle with those tests.

While we could have used Stavian's athleticism in the next couple of years, if he still wants to come to LU after getting his AA, he should fit in nicely as a replacement for the graduating David Andoh.
