This is the definitive place to discuss everything that makes life on & off campus so unique in Central Virginia.

They've done everything else right so far, it seemed like the architects were told to make it blend match the style of the rest of campus. I think it will fit right in and obviously give an amazing view of the whole city.

I was doing the math: a 252 foot tower would be almost as tall as the one-third Eiffle Tower replicas at Kings Dominion and Kings Island (their observation deck is at 264 feet). The tower at UC-Berkeley is 312 feet; UT-Austin has a tower that's 307 feet (that's for you, Sly).

Kurt Russell's first leading role was playing the part of Charles Whitman in the absolutely awful version of the film, "Deadly Tower". Yeah, the tower is iconic in Austin. They light it up in burnt orange for big victories and even add in a '1' for national championships.

Rooster Cogburn wrote:According to Jerry on the radio this am, part of the inspiration to make it a tower came on his tour of SBC Schools. The tower was especially inspired by the one at USA (South Alabama).
He also said that the design will most likely change. Should be interesting.

No one has said anything official, but it appears that LU is installing an ampitheater between the new library and grass above the new practice basketball courts. But unlike UVa's which is simply concrete to sit on, LU is using what appears to be retangular slabs of granite.

Personally, I would love to see them build a Greek theater. Before the Richmond game last year, I was walking campus and found theirs: Image

Love that there will be an amphitheater but at some point in the future, this would be neat too.

Ours will likely be smaller than UVa's and Richmond's, but ours will be far nicer than both: LU's cut granite slabs for seating vs. UVa's and Richmond's concrete seating. Plus, LU's will have a view of Liberty Lake nearby.
