Alcegaire, a redshirt-freshman, played 46 minutes in 21 games this past season while averaging 1.3 points per game. The 6’5″, 185-pound wing redshirted in his first season with Liberty during the 2012-13 season.

funny reading back when he first announced and some were wondering why we were RS a 28 ppg kid

now ya know

It'll be interesting to see if we fill that schollie or hold onto it. Layer's history is to always have a full complement of 13 players on scholarship. I think Osandai Vaughn is still out there.

It may be a strange way to look at progress, but if anything has moved in the right direction in the last couple of years, it has been the transfer situation. We have gone from losing stars like Curry and Gordon and solid contributors like Smith, Konan and Perez to guys at the end of the bench. Of our last 5 transfers; Phillips, Taylor, Ogukwe, Donley and now Alcegaire, only Phillips may have possibly had a future in the program. Addition by subtraction? One can hope.

Chene. He showed promise as a Freshman PG backing up Jesse. At the start of his sophomore year Layer gave him the kiss of death by saying he was our most improved player. (same thing he said about Marshall before last year). In his second year he couldn't hit a shot, then lost confidence completely and his floor game deteriorated as well. He ended up losing the backup PG job to a walkon, then transferred. Had he hung around, I think he would have had a chance to compete for the starting PG job the next year when Jesse had graduated and Emmanual Andrews, the JUCO we signed from Cape Fear CC didn't qualify. Chene had talent, he just got in a funk he couldn't get out of. As nice a guy as Layer is, make no mistake, his doghouse is a place akin to the Hotel California.

Kind of ironic that Wesley was only here because we had a late opening when Andrews didn't qualify. Now he is leaving us in a similar situation. I'm thinking he waited until he could see what the roster looked like, may or may not have had a talk with DL about his probable role the next couple of years, and then decided if he wanted to actually play college basketball he needed to be elsewhere. Can't blame him, and it's probably best for everyone, although to be fair he was actually very productive in his limited minutes.

Which is a JUCO. Since he has used a year of eligibility, I believe he will only be able to play there one year and then would need to transfer to another 4 year program.

20/20 hindsight says that not giving Wesley a more legit opportunity to show what he could do is another black mark on DL's coaching tenure at LU. I get it that it's hard to evaluate a player based on a couple of minutes here and there at garbage time, but the fact is, when the kid got in the game he produced, and that team desperately needed an athletic swing player. He deserved a better look.

Wes got pulled the second he made a mistake. He was never allowed to play through it and learn. It's tough to play that way. It leads to playing with indecisiveness, when you're worried about playing to not make mistakes rather than playing to succeed. I've been asked by several people about Wes, and my answer is that we never really got any real idea of what kind of player he could be because of those circumstances.

I watched Wes my senior year at Liberty, and always wondered why he was yanked so early or why Layer was more visibly angry when he made a mistake. The guy was clearly better than a handful or players on that team (Roberts, Assibesi, Donley), but at least Lang has clarified it for us.

I was on record on the air and at press row saying Wes should play. I am really happy to see him succeed. He should have been playing that last season he was in a Liberty uniform for sure. I couldn't figure out why he never saw action either.
