Not a bad idea to have a civic center that close to campus, especially now that reports are this SBC move is happening we could use a bigger arena for basketball. A new arena like this would also help draw more support from the Lynchburg locals which would be the next step in becoming the "Protestant Notre Dame" that Doc dreamed of when he started the athletic program.

basically we buy out TRBC and LCA, then build a civic center on site, then give it to the city, then rent it for stuff.

ok.

at least we appear to be darn good at spending cash.

Lots of questions. Not lots of answers. I'm more against a Civic Center than for one, but am still open to the idea. I'm against the City having ANY money or liability tied up in it.

I think Liberty would be much better off going it alone. The current structure on city council is hardly favorable to anything related to Liberty. I would bet JFJR's assertion that the city doesn't seem to interested will be right on.

Credit though for making the city go on record as rejecting the proposal as it most likely will do.

I'm confused as to why the city or county need to involved at all other than permits etc.

Latest update. Apparently, LU is willing to 'loan' $20 million to the City. I guess it clarifies what they meant when they said Liberty would 'Finance' the Civic Center.
That would be a minimum of $83 million the City would be on the hook for on just 2 Capital projects. Guess no more raises for city teachers. Awesome

And when the city defaults on the loan, Liberty will finally own Lynchburg and the Falwells' diabolical scheme will come to pass! Bwahaha!

I joke, but there are people in this town who believe that kind of stuff.

Think of the money they would have made this year with people drowning their sorrows watching the MBB team!

However, doesn't LU own the land? Would they sell it to the city? I probably should read the links.

BINGO

and I agree wholeheartedly with that concept.

being a 80's era student tho, the amount of cash flying around down there freaks me out a bit

things are good now... but man I hope people are lot smarter than me are looking 50-100 yrs down the road'

and if we have that kinda cash to buy millions of dollars of property from ourselves, can we PLEASE re-instate DI wrestling for cryin out loud

Dome or a dam? Which one should be your focus??? Shame on WSET for not doing a better job of covering the strong arm tactics of LU against a local neighborhood.

I think the focus should only be on Christ not all these material things.

it is absolutely insane to me the level of straight up hatred for LU in that town.

generations of people who just carry it on, most probably with no idea why.

gotta be something in the water.
