I was over on AGS and Libertine (who doesnt come around here much these days) raised an excellent point about the complexity involved in scheduling so I thought id pick the braintrust here and ask who would you try to schedule for non-conference games if you were in the AD chair? you can list FCS or FBS teams (with the rumors of Liberty possibly being considered for a Sun Belt invite) but keep in mind the level of competition we are recruiting against, our geographic location, and our current/potential recruiting footprint

For an FCS season: Towson (start a home and home),SMU, Baylor, Richmond, JMU, UVA, Bucknell
Home: Towson, Richmond, JMU and Bucknell
Away: Baylor, SMU,and UVA
and I'm to tired to come up with an FBS non-conference schedule that's both challenging but not an SEC/Big12 loaded suicide

Schedule any and every FCS/FBS team in Virginia.

Play teams from FL, GA, NC, AL, KY, OH, PA, TX and CA. Then play BYU, Notre Dame and the Academies.

Not to nitpick, but the AD doesn't directly make the football schedule. At Liberty, the assistant AD for football operations does, though at some level that person does answer to the AD.

Ok, so I am nitpicking. So what?

Here is what I would have on my hit list (for the record, St Paul's closed down and they had shuttered their athletics program so even if they were still open it would be tough to schedule them), not necessarily in order of preference

FCS
1. Cal Poly
2. UT-Chattanooga
3. William and Mary
4. Bethune Cookman
5. Delaware
6. Samford
7. Sam Houston State
8. Wofford
9. Richmond
10. Villanova

FBS

1. Virginia
2. Northern Illinois
3. FAU
4. FIU
5. Memphis
6. ODU
7. Texas State
8. Maryland
9. UCF
10.Texas (as a shout out to Sly and his love of the Longhorns)

But with having more money than we can spend I could see us providing the funding to restart the school and athletic department. Thus, easy win. The first time they beat us....pull the funds. Guaranteed win every year

Then why do just 1? Lets start 5 or 6 puppet colleges and start a home-and-home with every one.

We could even insist on naming the coaches for each. See where I'm going with this?

I mean if we've got more money than we can spend...
