That is true as you worded it, but I think most would. Based on SCARs posts, Chris would LOVE for CJ to come to LU, if only because it's close enough for him to go to his games.

If my son played football (although my wife is very much against it on safety grounds) and it came down to Liberty and an FBS school, Id encourage him to go wherever he feels is the best fit academically, spiritually athletically and personally. Id be happy withi whichever because I know it would be his decision and not mine or my wife's

Toomer's Twitter account has specified nothing verbally as to any announcement. Alaska is also ahead of most of the continental U.S. by a couple hours.

His twitter is at https://twitter.com/CJESPN

There is a photo for what it's worth on his twitter of the University of Colorado Stadium (Buffalos). The photo in itself is not a good indication if he plans to come to Lynchburg. But nothing objectively specified yet... just speculative.

I live in Pac-12 country, so perhaps I might see him when he plays the Utes in Salt Lake. Hopefully not - I'd much rather travel to Lynchburg to see him play there instead :)

P.S. as an FYI update

I also went over to the U of Colorado Football sites and there is nothing yet officially posted indicating C.J. Toomer has signed NLI with Colorado or become a Buffalo either as of 12:45 pm MST or 2:45 Eastern Time.

I was just checking some of the more probable fishing holes for where he might bite, as people had inquired.

IMHO, I don't think that he will actually choose Liberty as his final destination.

Anyone else finding it strange that we are a week past signing day and as far as I can find there is no indication where a prospect this talented is going?

Here's the deal. As much as I harp on in State recruiting I think this type of kid should be a no brainer. He's talented enough to draw interest BUT more importantly he's a Legacy kid. How many athletic alumni feel a complete disconnect from LU Athletics? 80% 90%? This is/was a great opportunity to bridge that gap. Before you call me crazy, maybe, look at how many programs have 'Legacy Kids' on their rosters. I certainly hope we solidly pursued this kid and he ends up coming here. If he was lightly recruited or worse, ignored, then that is a BIG miss by our staff.

Not particularly, at least in my view...as much as people hype national signing day, its the first day of a whole period where players can sign. Now, if we get to the last day of the signing period (which according to the site is April 1...no joke) and he still hasnt signed anywhere, then there is some reason for concern. Not all of the ESPN 300 sign their letters of February 5 (or whatever day national signing day is each year (for the record National Signing Day 2015 is February 4) so as much as the first day is a big deal, the race for many is only beginning.

Football is not like other sports BJ. Sure, there is a signing period, but there is also a VERY strong tradition of having those NLIs in on that first day. Other than a couple that have been delayed a day or 2 because of technical issues, I can't recall when we signed a HS player any other time.

I definately agree with Purple that as we are starting to get more of the sons and daughters of LU alum reaching college age, the ones who are D1 caliber athletes need to be pursued hard.

Sometimes athletes will wait to sign a letter if their first choice school tells them they will sign him if one of their signees fails to qualify by a prescribed date. This happens at the major schools every now and then. Or he simply may be headed somewhere as a preferred walk-on where no letter is required.

I talked to Toomer this week. CJ is still weighing the possibility of developing as a QB so he may go JUCO to prove himself and improve at the position. Also other outside factors involved in his process as well. However Chris told me that they have not heard a lot from Liberty recently but that CJ is still interested because of his time spent there last summer.

...and that's a problem. Obviously I'm a huge Gill fan but this goes beyond him and falls into the category of Program. Someone should have stayed in contact, not constant but something.

Yeah I agree. 2nd generation kids that were interested in Liberty include Logan Thomas and Zach McCray who both ended up at VA Tech. Not saying that was on Gill or even on Rocco. Just saying that Liberty in general needs to work on getting the 2nd generation athletes to come. It doesn't even take a lot of recruiting because most of their parents had good experiences as athletes and would gladly send their children there. Other 2nd gen's of note:

Basketball:
Evan Gordon (Indiana)
Eric Gordon (Indiana)

Football:
Trey Burton (Florida)
Clay Burton (Florida)

I am sure there are many others in various sports, some of whom we have landed. Allyson and Kristen Saunders from Volleyball come to mind along with many many Bream family members in baseball (and women's hoops).

Remember PH that we are only a few weeks out of signing day so Im sure there is some reason associated with the busyness that comes with that and also preparing for spring ball and what not. Its not as cut and dry as they just stopped pursuing him as one might think. Im sure if LFN or Chris (or somebody) inquired about it, there could be some reason given without violating NCAA rules

Seriously? With a staff that large you can't drop the kid a note. That's :BS We are missing out on some solid recruits by not taking care of our own
