Lang interviewed Rowsey after the game last night and reported that our staff recruited him a bit, but he "really didn't have any interest in LU." Now, can we get off of Layer's back for not signing him? He has enough real issues without fabricating more.

I told y'all tHis a long time ago.. His mom wasn't letting him go to LU or VMI, religion and military not this kids DNA.

It also said he was 'lightly recruited' by LU. Perhaps if he'd been heavily recruited he could have seen the light.
Either way he's legit, and he's not playing here.

As scribe also noted, he would not have had the same opportunity to make an impact here as he would have there with the way the team is constituted. He fit better at UNCA and it is manifesting itself positvely for them

One thing that IMHO DL is doing right is that he is not trying to fit round pegs into Liberty's square hole. It's possible that we could have gone after this kid hard and gotten him to come by deceiving him; de-emphasizing the rules and the faith aspects of the school as has been done at times in the past. I am convinced there are enough good players who are "square pegs" and are attracted to the schools uniqueness that we don't need to resort to that.

So you are saying all LU players are squares? :rofl j/k. It was too easy. But I hear what you are saying
And based on this years guard play compared to his I'm not sure you can say he wouldn't have had a chance to contribute/play/start

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight it certainly looks like he would be an upgrade, but if you go back to when he was being recruited, we looked to be well set with JC and Davon. Since they are both small lead guards like Rowsey, it was a formula for him seeing limited PT as a Freshman.

I'll agree to disagree on that. IMO in watching him he was certainly going to be an upgrade and a compliment to who we had on the roster

Kid scored 41 in a 102-92 loss to Radford. How does a freshman this talented end up at UNCA? Gotta wonder if he will pull a Curry and transfer to a bigger school?

No way --- family isn't as arrogant as the Curry's. Scoring is more important to him than winning or playing at a big school, unless........Coach K cheats, I mean calls him.

Transferring up would be a huge mistake for him. 1st of all he would have to guard bigger, more athletic guards and he seems to struggle at that end as it is. Secondly there is no way he would EVER get 28 shots in a game at a bigger school. Of the 28 shots he got tonight there were a handful that I would deem as bad shots. His selection was pretty solid tonight.

Personally I think QJ Petersen is a better player. I think QJ should get FOY. May not happen since VMI is leaving the conference though. It is kind of petty but it happens all over when teams are on their way out of a conference. This may be a CO-FOY situation. That wouldn't surprise me either. Both are truly deserving.

You basically see the difference in UNCA program under their new coach compared to the old one. This new guy lets them play and shoot whenever they want. The old man was more defensive minded. Ball control. IMO with 1 player (Rowsey) UNCA has lost its defensive indintity from the past. (I'm sure PH will like that statement). They need more than Rowsey to win the championship. Cunningham can't be in foul trouble.

With 3 projected starters out for the season McDevitt and Co have had to reinvent this UNCA team.. the fact that you even mention championship and that they're near the top of standings at this point is a testament to that squad from the players to the coaches.. In a foul happy contest like last night were you really looking at the defense? Refs didn't allow defense to really be played by either team..

I agree they need more than Rowsey offensively for balance but you must admit he's quite efficient and he isn't a volume shooter like say Carey & Downing for example.. Littlejohn is a great defender and Cunningham should be in the thick of it for Defensive POY (2nd in the country in blocks).. I can easily see CoFOY and CoDefPOY potential with Rowsey/Petersen and the two DJ's..

I played for Coach B- Defense hasn't really ever been our signature... can't lose what you didn't really have- but they need more players to contribute.. Robertson was shooting the ball very well early in the year and he's been in a funk for several games- he usually drains those open 3's..

Yeah 28 shots is a volume shooter in an NBA 48 minute game, let alone a 40 min college game. That is Larry Blair territory in terms of attempts in a game. I would put Rowsey in the same category as Downing at Presby and Carey at Longwood in terms of volume shooting.

Rowsey scored 41 points- of course he shot the ball a bunch last night.. my point is efficiency in regard to said volume.. 14-28 on the hard stat line is 50%- 4 of those misses were resulting fouls by RU players but they still count in lowering FG %.. so thats more like 18-28 if the fouls weren't committed & assuming the shots fall.. regardless he shot 50% last night.. Next you'll tell me that you wouldn't take a guy hitting 50% of his shots at the guard position right? Also note that our BIGS were 50% on the night as well..

Rashun Davis beat UNCA last night down the stretch with those daggers- I'll def give you that..

This. I mean if you put up 41 points you are probably going to shoot more than 20 times. Being ~50% is a pretty solid number no matter how many shots you take

I see what you mean Kingaling. When people talk about volume shooters it usually implies that they aren't shooting a high percentage. Shooting 50% is really good for a guard especially shooting that many times. I would still call him a volume shooter though because he has the freedom to shoot as many times as he wishes even if some of the shots are questionable. Last night I thought his shot selection was really good. I like his game at the offensive end though. He puts a ton of pressure on the defense in that you need to constantly be aware of him because he can get buckets really quickly.

I do want to correct one thing. If you get fouled on a FG attempt and miss the shot, the shot does not count as a miss. It doesn't count as a FG attempt at all. So really his 28 attempts was probably over 30 when you factor in the ones he was fouled on. I can't wait to see him in person in March. He is truly fun to watch.

You're just a Rowsey hater because he shoots as much as you wish you could have! :D

Davis is my favorite player among Radford's guards. Don't know how effective he'd be in a starting role, but I like him better than Price and Anderson.

I loved Mark Price but thought Kenny Anderson peaked in college.....

Davis is the best guard in the conference when you factor in offense and defense. Can defend, create, push, pass, or shoot.

Rowsey, Glasgow can't defend as well as Davis.

He's not even the best guard on his own team... He's a great guy off the bench though

He is the best guard on his team, that's how little you know about the rest of the league...RJ Price has been the biggest disappointment of conference play this year.. I have no clue with Mike Jones doesn't start Davis but he always plays down the stretch.

Nice game at PC last night by the way. Downing went off huh???
