Sure I bang on him a lot. But this team is so much more unselfish, energetic and fun to watch when Sanders is on the bench. He got 2 fouls early and we moved the ball created tough shots on defense, passed the ball and got a nice sized lead while he sat. Having said that I thought until the final 2 minutes he played the style of game he needs to play for this team to be successful. His pass to Smith for the monster dunk was a perfect example. I don't know who was more surprised by that pass, Smith or High Point.
What baffled me was the defense. (As an aside I've given up trying to figure out the substitution patterns). We played solid in our zone. Moved our feet and they had a tough time getting shots. Even the shots they hit were contested. Then we go man. EVERY team in America that has scouted us will isolate Sanders Coronado or Gielo in that order and drive to the bucket. If any one of the Layer/Roberts/Donley triumvirate are in they will ISO them. With the exception of Gielo none of them can contain a ball handler and when they get beat our help defense is non existent. We either don't help or are 30 minutes late rotating out to the shooter.
Offensively, we do great when we move the ball and establish our inside game. Whenever we start to lose a lead or get behind we forget about those guys.

I like JC Sanders better when he simply was a spot up shooter.

They are a better team with him out. He is a good guy but the offense doesn't flow with him out there.

Our defense, for the most part, is very good though.

I haven't been to an LU basketball game in Lynchburg since '08-'09 season. It is sad to hear that they still haven't improved the concession experience at games. I don't understand how we can improve all other areas of the game experience, yet the concessions stands are still high school quality. Oh well.

Sanders said the Flames tried to force it into the post too often Saturday, knowing the size advantage that Liberty had against High Point, and that led to a number of the turnovers.
Because..
The Flames have had double-digit turnovers in every game this season they’ve played against a Division I team.
And
but Layer made an excellent point noting the most crucial stretch of the game came with Liberty up 10 midway through the second half, when the Flames got a little too content with firing quick jump shots, giving the Panthers a window to get back into the game.
And... I believe 3 or 4 of those TO's were offensive fouls.
So if your Senior 'Team Leader' and Coach are this far apart on their thinking and philosophy, it can show that there is still a lack of trust issue involved on the team

Where are the pics of the TV Talent? I had on a nice suit and tie last night Seriously you guys do a great job of documenting the game.

As for the game itself, we all felt a little num leaving the Vines last night. It just felt like that loss should not have happened. It feels like a blow opportunity to build some real momentum behind the program. They had earned the chance to play in front of a good crowd and I am afraid the crowd may abandon them next Saturday. If you get a win last night, you might expect 7000 next Saturday.

I really hope they can go to Longwood and regain the momentum.

This is a good team and Smith , JR and Geialo are looking a lot better than last year. Agree about JC trying to do to much at times. I felt LU should have won last night. The difference to me was a few soft calls on LU including the two technicals called on JR and Coach Layer. After Layers T it seemed as if the officials made a few ego calls against LU as well. That stretch prevented LU from stretching a lead they were building and took liberty a momentum away and handed it to High Point. The guys still made mistakes that cost them but a tight game like this one officiating like that can play a key role in comes out on top. If this team can just figure out a way to stay consistent things like this wont matter. Just my two cents on the game.

Layer and Coronado both earned those T's. There was nothing soft about them. When you see The Head Coach being restrained by his assistants, than you can kinda guess its going to be a T. He was warned several times and kept going. JR would have been fine if he hadn't brought his legs up while doing a chin up on the rim now a 'soft T' would be what Coach Reeves got a couple of weeks ago.

But they passed on the foul. Nothing nearly as blatant as the missed foul by Burrus on the 3 attempt against Campbell

Either way the refs didn't lose this game. Liberty lost it with turnovers and missing ft's. Simple as that.

Chris Lang should we be able to expect a team with 8 seniors and two juniors to hold home court? Or is just "I think" this team will be good give a pass on home court losses vs a wounded conference foe? At what stage is their responsibility to turnovers, shot selection and passive play questioned after they graduate?
