Isn't Burris graduating? Yes, yes he is. I don't care though, like I said earlier in this thread, you make room for this kid.

Now I get to watch him kill us for 4 years at UNCA.

Me too...and I was focusing on just the guards because the story said he was recruited to play PG or SG there. Anyway, I just hope he isnt the second coming of Matt Dickey once he gets there (I will have nightmares about him for a long time...)

After thinking about it, Curtis Staples is a bad comparison. Staples came into college as a spot up shooter only. This kid is more than that. He's a scorer. Not just a shooter.

For those that care, Rowsey is starting for Asheville and reportedly put up 27 points on 7 3-pointers in his first college scrimmage. Still don't know why we didn't pursue him harder.

Because he was 'local' and we are too good for 'local' talent.

Or maybe more that with his size he didnt fit the recruiting philosophy that the coaching staff had in mind and less that they aren't interested in local talent...

He's playing for another Big South team. One with a better track record over the last decade then we do. And his size isn't that different than other guards we've had here. He just happens to be immensely more talented then some of those players.

Enjoy your :koolaid

Something to consider...bear in mind though that we only had one scholarship to give (well two after Taylor left). We can speculate/argue their thought process in deciding to not recruit him for that one scholarship til the cows come home, but from what I can tell, they felt that Kemrite better fit their philosophy. As I said earlier in the discussion, I would want him on my team, but its not my decision or philosophy that is in play here.

Additionally, in light of the comment to "make room" that someone made earlier as well, with Burrus getting a sixth year, who gets their scholarship pulled (from the guys who were on the team at the time)? Ethan? (Id hate to be at the Layer family dinner table for that one) Wesley? (The year after you redshirt him...) Donley? Do you sacrifice depth in the frontcourt and pull one from one of the bigs? Im not saying this as a "kool aid drinker", Im saying it to make a point that its not as simple as just cutting a guy currently on your roster to make room for an potential incoming player. There are other aspects that need to be taken into account when making a decision that will effect a team for the next four years (possibly longer)

Beej, just stop. You don't have to argue for Liberty in EVERY discussion. People make mistakes. Layer & co have their reasoning for not pursuing Rowsey, but that has nothing to do with the lack of a scholarship. Only time will tell if they made the right decision by not pursuing him, but they're not off to a good start.

By the way, Rowsey led all UNCA scorers in an exhibition tonight with 17.

And height shouldn't really be a factor in this league. How tall is the PG from CSU? It was a miss by this staff that we will be reminded of at least once a year. But hey, no one is perfect.

I spoke to new Asheville Coach Nick McDevitt at media day at length and he couldn't say enough about Rowsey. They think he is a really good player and an impact player. Losing Hornsby to LSU may be a blessing in disguise because now they can turn Rowsey loose. I am looking forward to seeing him play.

As far as recruiting him and it being a miss, I don't think it is that simple. We seem to break down a complex subject like recruiting and turn it into something really basic. I don't have any inside information here despite my new lofty FlameFans title :D but I can remember a similar situation when I was coaching in the 90's. Kevin Martin of UNCA wanted to come to our school from Ohio State so badly that he was literally in tears. But we had Jay Boykin, Gabe Caldwell, Larry Jackson, Marcus White, Mark Reed etc. We were loaded in the backcourt for 3 years to come. So we passed. He ends up being 1st team all league for a couple of seasons in Asheville and he tried to destroy us every time we played. It happens. I wouldn't call it a miss though. Just the way recruiting goes.

Come on Scar, you know we could have found a spot for him if we wanted him bad enough. We might not have needed him this year, but we have plenty of holes to fill for next season.

I agree its a complex issue but you are comparing Apples and Kiwi's. In your case you have a transfer as opposed to an incoming Frosh. One sorta falls out of the sky, the other you recruit.
And a White Jackson Martin back court would have been sweet

No Gabe had just come back. Yeah Martin would have been great. We knew he could play. We just felt we had good Chemistry and talent in our backcourt already.

Manson, there are 2 sides to the recruiting process. Do you think Rowsey would have wanted to sit out a year? That would have been a tough sell. But yeah you can make room for anyone you want if we are being total real. If he was LeBron James, I'm sure they would have "made room". Rowsey is good but again, if he doesn't fit what you want to do or what you have, you move on. I know I am simplifying it now but that is basically it.

So you over simplify the matter just after you castigated others for doing the same. You Left Wing Media types are all alike :D
