Bevins is on the compliance staff. Someone give him a few hours this week to go work with Lunsford.

It was sure nice seeing a W.

Yes, Lunsford had a bad game. Another observation that is growing on me is Woodrum's accuracy. I like the kid's field presence and control, and think he could be a good veteran leader over the next two seasons. However, if any up-and-comers have significantly more accuracy (and as a result better completion percentage), the Flames may have a legit QB competition.

Was it the play calling or was it Woody just missing the plays that we're called by the OC. That would make his job a little bit harder when the yardage he is expecting to be there isn't there based on Woody's decision making

Spoke to a guy last night that sort of was hinting about same thing, in terms of a qb's accuracy. The kid we had committed Terrane Ervin left here to instead go to JMU. Was told reason in part was his chance to get on field earlier than normal. Woody is apparently entrenched here as the starter and that could be a bad thing if he doesn't have to compete for it every day in practice. I think Masha and Shashaty could possibly compete with woody, and really push him.

He was not feeling the long ball in the First Half while I was watching.

Lunsford clearly is in a bad mental place. His leg is fine and he's just going to have to work through the psychological challenges. It is a simple sophomore slump. He'll emerge stronger than ever.

The wind was pushing down pretty fiercely into the stadium from the west creating some whirling and gusting on the field. That may have had some impact on accuracy of kicks and throws (but yeah, it was ugly out there!).

On another note, the tower side was as quiet as I have heard it all season.

I'll take the ugly W.

Not much to be loud about, frankly. Stayed til the end so I got to see us give up the 7.

I was telling the wife after the game that it dOesnt matter if you win ugly or win pretty, as obvious as it sounds, as long as you have one more point than the other team when the clock hits all 0's...you still win. More detailed comments later...son wants to play

I noticed Jeff Barber just tweeted a pic of he and Buffalo Bills great Jim Kelly at the game today. Is there a story behind Kelly's attendance at the game?

Gotta give props to the defense...90 seconds away from back to back shutouts (which would be the first time in program history)...after giving up the most points in a game since I think 2010 and back to back gut wrenching losses, they pick themselves right back up and dominate the last two opponents.

Doesn't Kelly's daughter attend Liberty? I think I remember hearing that somewhere.

I think Kelly's daughter is considering LU; the whole family was touring campus last spring.

Impressed with Liberty's defense today. your stunts and twists up front kept Augustine scrambling all day......great halftime show, too. :)

I know CCU is good, but how did they get 45 against LU (in regulation)?

BuryYourDuke wrote:Deep ball accuracy has been bad all season. Petey is open, really open, a lot. Josh just can't seem to hit him in stride and it's leaving points on the field. Mid range accuracy is becoming a problem though. He needs competition. Hopefully masha can offer that. I think we would benefit from a dual threat QB, even though I generally prefer pocket passers.
I've been telling people all year that I'm not sold on Woodrum. I don't think he's locked up four year starter yet.

At the beginning of the year, I said Woodrum reminded me of Brock as a sophomore. He hasn't developed like Brock did his sophomore year. Right now Woodrum is a game manager, not a playmaker. We need a playmaker at QB.

Interesting quote on the VMI message board:
Also some Class from Coach Gill, for taking three knees at the end.........Rocco would have thrown some 30-yard passes there.

Some really good guys over there, but a few that just hate anything LU. I have some good friends from VMI as well as a couple at school there. Maybe it all started after that blowout against them several years ago. Some people might forget that many of our guys work hard and have great character; this isn't something that you only get in the Rat line. I thought their team played very well, and they obviously were not mailing it in at the end. I thought our key defensive play might have been at 8:00 in the 4th. I thought that if they got the ball moving we could get into some trouble.

For what its worth, Josh has had good moments this year and Im not exactly wanting to hand the starting job to Masha for 2014 just yet either despite Josh having his issues much like he has this year. Id like to see him hit that first deep ball. It seems that in just about every game, the first pass or two is a "money ball" going for a deep shot, and he overthrows that and then he doesnt really go back to it much the rest of the game. I think if he can hit that, it can set a better mental tone.

I don't know what to say on Lunsford. He's been completely unreliable all season, even on kickoffs.
Agree 100%, his long pass accuracy is horrible, and from a former QB, that is by far the easiest pass to complete. He had 2 easy TD throws in the first half with just a little accuracy. Hopefully he can improve.
Like you, I like to watch drop back passers, but I believe to be very successful in FCS, you have a much better chance with a duel threat QB.

How do we know that given the same chance to hit that deep ball Marsha doesn't hit it, instead of waing for woody to try n hit it. Bottom line is yes in order to develop n b better Woody needs comp. like I said earlier old it be part of the reason the kid from LC Bird decommitted because he thought woody was a lock?

I thought the crowd was really good today. (Attendance wise) Normally it seems to drop off later in the year. The weather was perfect. A sluggish game but a win is a win. The defense seems to be feeling it now, really playing great now. Hopefully we will see them down the road. I grew up near Lexington and always enjoy going back there when I can especially this time of year.

Maybe forbidden...or he didnt think he could beat him AND Masha AND Shashaty (or at the minimum Masha and Shashaty). Josh is struggling that I think we can agree on...I just dont think we need to be preparing him to ride the bench in 2014 before we have even finished the 2013 regular season.

And to answer your question at the top...we don't know (once I could actually decipher it).
Are we back?
