So far no big suprises. Winthrop 1-0, CCU lost to Xavier by 45, High Point is 1-2, Charleston 1-1, Asheville 1-0, Radford 0-3, and VMI 1-2.

Jack Leasure only had 4 points in the game. Ever seen Larry with those types of numbers?

Bradshaw didn't play for Winthrop in their opener, should be fine though.

Michael Jenkins of WU scored 40.

Tonight Asheville takes on Western Carolina, and Winthrop opens up their Preseason NIT with Iona.

Bad news on the injury front for WU tonight in the preseason NIT. Bradshaw is questionable, McCoullough is questionable, and Martin may be out with the flu.

Jenkins did have an incredible night in the opener going for 40 on 12 of 18 three point shooting, tying the school and conference mark I believe.

Yes he did tie the conference record I saw that. Good luck tonight. Hopefully some of those guys can play.

that is bad news. It is nice to see Leasure stink it up though. Man, I've got a grin on my face just thinking of the temper tantrum he must have thrown.

WU wins by 20 over Iona, great defensive performance, but I wasn't impressed with Iona in the least.

Martin played a good game despite puking during the first half with the flu.

Bradshaw is banged up, did not play well. We need him tomorrow night to even have a chance.

If Hansbrough and Terry play like they did tonight then WU could be in trouble. It'll be interesting to see how Bradshaw and Martin play against Carolina though. They both have the talent to play against them.

I only caught the last seconds of the carolina game, but from what I heard they looked good in transition but pretty lost in the halfcourt sets, probably from all the newbies. We need to keep it a halfcourt game. I'm worried about Bradshaw, he was grimacing the whole game and it looked like he hadn't practiced in awhile. Hansborough may have a field day. Also, Marshall said we sucked during the post-game show and were going to get killed tomorrow night. He usually doesn't say things like that.

Carolina's half court set was pretty much get the ball to Hansbrough and let him dunk on four guys at once. I worked pretty good. He was 8-8 in the first half. In the 2nd half they started running and were really hard to stop. This team looks exactly like the 04-05 team did at the beginning of the season.

They gave up a lot of open looks on the defensive end, and besides hansborough, didn't move the ball too well. If (a big if) we can take away the big guy's look and keep it slow paced it will be tight, if not, going to be a drubbing.

They gave up a lot of 3's to Sacred Heart and to Pfeiffer. I don't know if that's because it was garbage time and they had a lead or what but they give up a ton of 3's.

This isn't the Big South, but Cal St. Northridge beat Redlands University 159-97. Two huge scoring debuts

Me and JCManson are headed over to check out the Highlanders of Radfurd tomorrow night. If any of you guys are in Richmond or would like to head over to Richmond on a school night, let me know. I hit Chris Carroll (former Lady Flames asst, current Lady Spiders asst) for tix but if not we will get some general admissions at the gate. I said it before and I will say it again, I love college hoops. JC, I will let you know tomorrow about the tix.

With your intimate knowledge fo the PG position, I'm anxious to hear your reviews of their crab named Amir. His numbers have looked good but I'd love to hear more about his game.

Yes I have noticed Amir getting 2 freshman of the week honors in the Big South already. I can't wait to see this year's version of the Highlanders. Seems like a lot of new faces with no Bynum, Holcome-Faye etc. I will check his game out for you Sly.

my girlfriends roomate is from pittsburg and is Amir's best friend, so i know a little about him. he got a late offer from georgetown, so the kid can play. he was big time in highschool. he isn't really a true pg but he can score it.

I get the impression he's a similar player to Tack Minor at LSU ... small but can light it up.

No one is under the impression that Richmond is an A-10 power but I gotta tell ya I was impressed with the High's last night. They look pretty good with Amir Johnson running the point and a 6-3, 6-4 slasher named Kenny Thomas who is a soph playing in the backcourt with him. They pressured Richmond all night and made them turn the ball over. Richmond played badly though. They shot 1for 13 from 3 at one point even though they were shooting 46% as a team (which is really, really high for a team average by the way). Radford forced 19 TO's and had 14 steals most of them for layups at the other end. Radford was up by as many as 25 before Richmond got hot. But in the end they ran out of steam and Radford pushed it back out to 17. Chris Oliver had his usual double double with 24 and 10 I believe. Sly, Johnson has a really funny looking shot but he can play. Very quick with the ball and on D. JCManson was there with me if he cares to share any thoughts.

As Scar said, I was very impressed with Radford as well. This will probably end up being one of Richmond's poorest outings on the season, but alot of that could be because of how Radford played. They killed Richmond on the boards, especially in the first half. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'm sure Scar knows what the exact numbers ended up being. It also seemed that Radford was playing a much smaller lineup as well, which is impressive. The Highlanders were constantly changing defenses. When they went on their run in the first half, they were using a 1-2-1-1 full court press. Richmond couldn't seem to get the ball past the foul line extended. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but I was very impressed with RU. I hate to say that because I have a strong distaste (the word hate is so strong) for them, and I would have thought they would be much weaker without Holcomb Faye and Bynum. We shall see though.
