BTW someone noted that this is out homecoming game and that must be an indicator as to what we think of you...

Not true. after we announced the move to FBS we lost all of our conference games and we were scrambling to pickup any games we could... the schedule is scrambled and homecoming date means nothing. maybe we picked it because it is an all instate affair.
BTW we have lost something like 11 games in 5 years... we have lost at least 2 homecoming games... maybe more.

Flames Nation wrote:Player Spotlight Week 6: Cory Freeman

Posted: Wednesday, October 2, 2013.
BY TROY MOORE

This week’s player spotlight will be focused on defensive lineman Cory Freeman. Cory is looking to be a major contributor to a stout D-line in his senior season after earning 2nd team Big South Conference honors last year. This Saturday Freeman and the rest of the Flames defense will take on a challenge unlike any they have encountered perhaps in their entire Liberty careers, facing an Old Dominion squad that averages 67 points per game against FCS opponents. Freeman told us he believes the Flames will have some answers to the Monarchs’ outstanding offense.

“If we go out there and do our jobs and play the way we are supposed to, we’ll be fine” Freeman told us Tuesday after practice. “We are set up for some success.”

To any of the ODU folk ... was trying to get to town around noon to catch the early wave of games before heading to the stadium. Monarch Sports Grille is pretty close to the stadium. Good spot?

Flames Nation wrote:Opponent Player Spotlight: Taylor Heinicke

This week the Flames encounter the best player they will face all year. Taylor Heinicke, the dual threat quarterback of the Old Dominion University Monarchs, has garnered national recognition over the past two years with a seemingly endless list of records and awards. When you watch this game, it is very possible that you will be seeing a future NFL quarterback attacking Liberty’s defense.

Heinicke burst onto the national scene last season by breaking the all time NCAA Division I single game passing record. In a 64-61 victory over New Hampshire, he was 55-of-79 for 730 yards and five touchdowns. His 791 yards of total offense that game is also a record. Proving that game was not a fluke, Heinicke went on to break the FCS single-season passing record and win the Walter Payton award, the FCS version of the Heisman Trophy.

I just saw this item on Harry Minium's chat that I like. "Is getting pressure on the QB a major problem for the D?" HM: "Yes. A major problem." Relaxed Josh with Time vs an undersized Defense, Me Likey!

It really is a lot of fun having all of the local media outlets around here mentioning Liberty several times each broadcast!

I think you're overrating ODU...they are good but they are no Alabama. they can be beaten and I would be find Iit funny that they are giving more credit to us than our own people do

This weekend, the Liberty Flames and the Old Dominion Monarchs will meet on the gridiron for the first time between the in-state opponents. Both teams come into the game sporting identical 3-2 records.

This is a nonconference game as the Monarchs are in a transition year from the FCS to Conference USA and the FBS.

Excellent Read from Harry Minium about LU:

On a Mission to Reach FBS
Selig said he has talked with C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky, not so much to recommend Liberty for the next round of conference expansion, but to make sure conference officials realized the growth potential.

"Their baseball stadium cost $18 million," Selig said. "There are Triple-A teams that don't have a stadium as nice as Liberty's. They have really positioned themselves well."

Barber said the Flames also travel well. The school sold out the 1,000 tickets it was allotted for Saturday's game. "We could have sold a lot more," he said. "Over the years, we've built a loyal fan base, a national fan base. When we go on the road, we take a lot of people with us."

The school's 19,200-seat Williams Stadium has 18 luxury suites and can be expanded. The next goal is 25,000, with an ultimate capacity of 78,000.

Its nice having someone at least say good things about us to a conference unlike another in-state school I know.
