I would like to think Jason wouldn´t hold his personal differences with RMK against his alma matre, but I doubt he would leave Duggar to make what is essentially a lateral move (although perhaps not in SALARY). He obviously has a good relationship with his HC and likes coaching VMIs style, so until one of the big boys comes calling for an assistant or he gets a decent HC offer I think he will be in Lexington.

Ritchie? After all, didn't he say he was "called to be an assistant coach"? And he's definitely first chair potential.

Yes and yes. In my OP I asked ¨what former LU player would you like to see on the bench?¨ Julius has coached quite a bit in Nigeria, and I believe was also a player/assistant in a couple of his more recent gigs as a globetrotting basketball mercenary.

im not trying to discount his coaching resume..but coaching in Nigeria is a lot different than coaching at a division 1 school..that doesnt exactly give me the warm and fuzzy's.

I don´t disagree about the overall poor quality of coaching in Nigeria. A lot of talent is not being properly developed as a result. Lets face it, the main thing he would bring would be a cellphone full of contacts which could potentially hook us up with the next Nwosu or Aluma.

PH is right. We dont know with any certainty if Layer has been extended or not. If he has, I can see your concern bball...if not (or at the very least they dont want to negotiate that until within the 2013-14 season), then really it amounts to a one year rental at worst (best way I can describe it) so we have a full staff and Olinger can go back to focusing on being the Ops director (for the record I dont mean military ops PH...)

If that is the case that is a huge slap in the face to Olinger...he can go back to being a Ops director..thats a huge downgrade thats not a, "job well done..you have filled in as assistant coach for two years..thanks you can go back to your old job now.." Thats some bs..specially since it looks like they hired a coach with the same amount of experience..

Since he has been extended we basically have 3 lower level assistant coaches and no head assistant coach...what is that all about. Not really a way to build off a Big South Tournament championship. Epic fail for Layer here and I have been pretty easy on him up to this point

Do you have any hard news to back up that Layer has been extended? (Of late even the ACD posts something announcing a contract extension and I havent seen anything on the athletic site about that and heck even LFN hasnt posted anything that Im aware of)

It´s a bit of a head scratcher just looking at the resume, but that could be said about a lot of coaching hires that worked out pretty well. We weren´t there for the interview. Obviously Layer was impressed, and I have a feeling he does not impress easily. I wouldn´t be so sure this will be the number one assistant position. Joyce has a pretty long history with Layer, and he may be filling that role, which is exactly what would have happened if Matt had gotten the job.

The athletic site waits weeks to announce stuff like that sometimes. Just because it hasn't been posted doesn't mean it's not true. Chill out dude.
