Liberty has an entire football program working diligently to win the games that are on their schedule. As well as every other sport we sponsor. We are not at any point diverting any resources away from accomplishing that from those programs to conference realignment. "focus on winning the Big South" is something that we have never stopped doing. So to pretend like we've got Gill on the phone with Benson trying to schmooze our way into the SBC instead of drawing up a game plan to beat Richmond, I think you're confused about how large organizations work.

Speaking of Gill, he is only here because we are moving up. Or so he believes/believed. It is also known that he recruits with that idea. I know Jr was very vague about the timeline and keeps reiterating that it could be 10 years from now, but there is an expectation to move yesterday. We've basically been winking and nodding that we will be FBS sooner rather than later and if it doesn't happen, I think we could see some shakeup.

Lamar, Missouri State, and Jax St is a pipe dream. They keep getting mentioned yet they clearly have no capability to make that kind of move. Missouri St is about a year away and IMO is a better add then JMU or us if they do.

I admit it could be a stupid comment, but why join an organization that didn't want us the first time? Perhaps I'm thinking emotionally, but that's just my thinking right now.

Two things could hav happened...#1. We were just bait for JMU...the bait didn't work. OR

#2. It's political. No one goes this far and says LU is next in line, and then at the last minute says, "Oh, they aren't competitive enough."

But at this point, I wouldn't know what to do. The CAA is a mess, and they might be desperate enough to offer. The Southern is private schools, but I don't think they really like us either.

If the teams in the Big South stay put, then we'd be OK staying...but what if Coastal & VMI go to the Southern...then I'd think we'd have to try CAA if they would have us.

We play solid OOC schools, when we aren't playing D2's Win most of those over the years and have a few Playoff appearances we aren't having this discussion.

We would have already had a playoff experience if Elon hadn't joined the Southern.

(They year we won the Big South but didn't have an auto bid...we would have already had the autobid becuase we would have had 6 teams longer).

Two other playoffs came down to tiebreakers.

In 1997 We beat Appy State and kept them from getting a playoff bid. That same year their Student government voted that they should not schedule us again because we were "intolerant".

If we would have made the playoffs twice, would it have made any difference to the Sunbelt committee? No.

I don't think our AD would ever want to schedule more than 1 d2, but where we are at we have no choice.

We've played Appy in football since 97 and currently play them in other sports
If we'd won the games needed to put us in the Play Offs twice then we certainly would be looked at differently.

Appy State did this in 2001. I don't think we played them in football since that last series was finished.

And again, one of those nonplayoff appearance was directly linked to realignment. The Socon took Elon to delay the Big South from getting an autobid and in responce to the Big South's taking of VMI.

Ironic that Appy's AD, in response to the SGA, said that Liberty would be easy to replace with a team such as JMU.

And that's the heart of the matter right there.

We can't just make the playoffs and hope for an invite...we're going to have to make the FCS championship game to get an invite.
