What you're saying then is that Liberty does not have a single athletics program that is better than one at James Madison? Let me be very clear here - you're saying that not one program here at Liberty is better?

No offense to Flames Nation, but this article is bush league at best - http://www.libertyflamesnation.com/2013 ... daddy.html

You missed about 10 other sports in there.

No, it covers every Liberty sport that faced JMU over the time period mentioned that liberty.edu/flames has listed as a sport. Give me one that we missed.

Track & Field/Cross Country doesn't count because there are not head to head matchups.

No, you're the only one saying that because your reading comprehension skills are clearly sub-par.

FFG, it's a nice piece except our employee who thought it was okay to use foul language but it really won't change anyone's mind.

I didn't find much difficult to read about it. maybe because I had friends who were gay when i was in school even some in our dorm. Liberty is not the legalistic bible thumping institution its made out to be or even was in its younger years and I'm ok with that. That doesn't mean we have abandoned our beliefs and stances as an institution. it just means we have learned how to handle these things in a more loving manner. Its articles like the one i posted here that make me absolutely proud to be a Liberty flame.

JMU cancels men's athletic programs to fund the expansion of their football team. Liberty adds women's sports to comply with Title IX.

Forgive me for being bitter about this. The first athlete that I coached to receive a scholarship had the program canceled after his sophomore year. He was given the option to stay at JMU and run on the club track team, or transfer, leaving all of his friends and many credits behind. Simply put, it crushed the kid's dreams of being an All-American at the DI level.

I kind of hate the JMU athletic program because of this...even if they did it to a kid who participated in a sport that "doesn't matter."

You guys argue pages over the dumbest things. We beat jmu three times in baseball last year then we have a horrific night and they are miles ahead of our baseball program??? Get real. Are they better overall in athletics right now, yes! If gill is who he is supposed to be and the new baseball stadium and toman do what they are supposed to the gap will be closed in 2 to 3 years. Basketball is the outlier but they are weak there too.

At this point I think you are arguing Potential. There is 0 doubt that JMU has a better athletic pedigree then we do. The issue becomes who has a better future. Has JMU leveled off? If they make the FBS jump will they reignite success of their past ? Has LU significantly closed that gap and ready to over take them? That's the argument

No one said they were miles ahead. They beat us in most sports. Look at the record. Hard to argue with that.

QFT and bolded for emphasis. Geographically the difference is somewhat negligible since the two schools are only a hundred miles plus apart, and really the fact that JMU beat us in sports (regularly) doesn't necessarily indicate they would have better success in the Sun Belt than we would (of course the inverse of that wouldn't necessarily be true either). The question they (the Sun Belt) are asking is who would be a more competitive addition across the spectrum of the sports that the conference offers, especially the "Big 3".

This. I would argue our baseball program is better, right now. We've won 3 of the last 4 and the game up there earlier this year was a fluke. No doubt we beat them here next week.

The Flames Nation article only addressed head to head matchups. I am thinking of 5 sports specifically that may or may not have been involved in those head to head matchups that I know to be better programs, right now, and not based on "potential," or results dating to 2005??

How quickly the lemmings forget that we were 10th in the country in Golf last year, per one example. Are you saying, that even though we were 10th in the country last year at the NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS, that we can't argue golf is better because we didn't go "head to head?"

We have a better golf program, among others, than James Madison. Yet I see this -

logic...please sit down before you hurt yourself...

The greater question isnt the head to head between us and JMU (especially in sports that at the end of the day the average person doesnt give the furry crack of a rat's behind about...thank you Big Bang Theory for that bit of inspiration), but the question is which is better in terms of what they can bring as far as competitiveness to the Sun Belt, especially in the "Big 3" (football, baseball and basketball)? The answer to that lies in more than wins and losses, especially to each other.

Liberty has 10 times more potential than JMU to move to a FBS conference. JMU has peaked, where as LU is a rising program..........in all sports. In the future LU will continue to grow, both in athletics and education.
