We must be getting closer .... the political activist guy on the SB board is starting to sound desperate? Others are starting to ignore his rants.

Yepper ..... we hear it from everyone after they visit Williams.

Hey, how much will this new Fox, ESPN Style network play into conference Realignment/Money in the future or has it already?

Fox is closing in on a deal for the TV basketball rights for the Catholic colleges, including Georgetown and Marquette, that are leaving the Big East but likely will keep the conference name. But the deal wasn't announced Tuesday

It'll likely make a big impact, along with NBCSN, once the current round of deals expire.

ESPN can pretend they aren't worried about anything but I think these sports networks are finally getting their acts together to actually be real competition to ESPN which will be a nice change of pace and great for sports on TV

I wonder if this will light a fire under JMU's britches and lead them to pursue a SB invite?
Of course, I think if JMU is invited to the SB, we would as well.?

Most of the people on the Sun Belt boards are hoping that the GMU to A-10 move will push JMU their way... Anything to avoid Liberty make those folks happy.

The thing is though, NBCSN doesn't try to be like ESPN. They do their own things and in my opinion they've done a great job just running their own operation, not playing copycat.

It remains to be seen if Fox Sports tries to go for the giant. Usually it's failed when they've tried in the past (not counting Fox Sports Net TV rights to professional teams)

Sports definitely offers advertisers the best content these days. We watch live and can't fast forward through the commercials. I like the idea of having a little box screen ... of what you're watching, during commercials.

Here's an option to think about: The MAC has 13 schools for football w/ UMass being a football only member. Why not MAC for football and A-10 for everything else?

Nice idea. Not happening with either league right now.

A-10 has zero reason to consider us at the moment. MAC is in a dying area with a rapidly decreasing recruiting base. The rust belt is becoming increasingly irrelevant for football. I'd much rather see a southern or east coast based conference.

Looks like the Sun Belt is making their move. Now we wait for the Tulsa/WKU dominoes to fall! I still think we need to see some more realignment in the bigger conferences (ACC, The Conference Formerly Known As The Big East, Big 10, Big 12) so a fourth slot can eventually open up in the Sun Belt. I'm not confident that we are the institution that comes to the minds of the school presidents when they think about that third slot.

The longer this festers the poorer our chances IMHO. I don't want the JMU administration waking up and realizing how badly they have managed the last couple of years. Once we get our foot in the door of FBS, we will open eyes.

Agreed sly if jmu adm decides to get into the ring it only buries libertys chances imo. Nmsu is next inline once wku leaves and if bensen gets what he wants, 12 schools then the rumored Lamar and Sam Houston would be next two. Just would really hate to see Lu's politics prevent all the good it can bring to the conference.

That would be entertaining.

I honestly believe it is a two-horse race between us and NM State right now for the slot opened up when WKU departs. Hopefully the league presidents make site visits because that would push things heavily in our favor. As long as we remain that shadowy school way over in Virginia then our chances are diminished. The more they know us, the more they will like us. The exact opposite is true in Las Cruces where they were bemoaned by their Sun Belt brethren the entire time they were a league member before bolting to the WAC. Las Cruces is as bad (if not worse) as it sounds.

I hope that with App St and GSU on board, Liberty will have a couple more votes coming their way. Maybe it will help having those two in, maybe not. I think those email conversations between GSU and NMSt may hold some weight in creating a 'peer-institutional' friendship, thus gaining NMSt more votes. In the game of realignment, there is a lot of schmoozing and backdoor arrangements (...no pun intended).

What's sort of disheartening is that Liberty seems to have no 'peer-institution' friendships. In other words, we have no schools that are willing to vouch for us. Those things do come into play in these situations.

I'm still confident that Liberty will get their number called before any memorandum comes into play. It is now important for Liberty to start making the FCS playoffs. Look at Butler. They started off small and now they're making their way to the Big East. Heck, Florida Gulf Coast may find their way in the Sun Belt if they continue on their historic journey. Liberty needs that same effect, but in football. It will definitely help our case.

That's a great point. In fact I think someone else brought up the fact that for years we actively pursued NOT being liked by our peer institutions.
IMO, this has a lot to do with our 'delay' in moving up.
