I have to say that I am one of the biggest LU homers on the board and even I didnt think we would even make it past Coastal
Let's wait on that conversation until the seasons over with okay? Not that you have to it's just a suggestion.

If that is the case then I guarantee that regardless of the outcome tomorrow Layer keeps his job...there is a lot of talent coming back and with the run Liberty has made in the tournament it will be enough for JB to wait and see what he does with a very senior heavy team next year.

Had Liberty not made this run it would have been a tough call for JB. Simply because Layer does things the right way. Its hard to fire guys that do things the right way because it is about more then just wins, but when you don't win at all then sometimes the tough choice needs to be made. That doesn't really matter now because LU has made this run and JB will not fire Layer regardless of the outcome tomorrow.

Just my gut feeling

Wow! Great run here in the tournament. Thought they could play like this all year, after watching the first half of the W&M game. Difference now is that they are finishing the games out. Congrats to the team!

Congrats, Flames! Way to not fold like we did today. Good luck tomorrow, continue to represent The Commonwealth well.

We have the chance to sweep the Big South Tournament if the women win tonight. We would be the first team to do so since 2004 (when we swept both titles that year). Id have to do some looking but I think we are the only Big South Schools to win both titles in the same year

Dude, we've won practically every women's title so the list has to be short of options.

Still in shock of what I have seen the past few day. Chuck South is ridiculously hot as well. But I believe.

The last time JB had to make a call on whether to let a coach go, he we were looking at mixed results on the court, but the primary factors had to do with how he felt about how things were being done, and he wasn´t pleased. I have never heard anything but praise for Layer in how he runs things, the type of kids he recruits, the emphasis on academics and the spiritual component as well. Like postie said, he does things the right way, and he has a year left on his contract. Regardless of tomorrows result I can´t imagine he won´t be back, and likely with a 2 year extension.. Then if he lays an egg with a senior laden squad next year, may be a different matter. I also believe the fall signing class will be very important with all those seniors leaving. If they are bad next year, he may have to go even with the extension and even though he does it the right way. I personally think next years team can be very good.

I still cannot see a reason to retain Layer. Call me what you want, but he has had 4 years to help bolster the program and all he has done is maintain mediocrity... *at best.* 3 wins, with 2 being near losses due to an inability to coach with any type of lead, should not save his job. His ability to recruit legitimate freshman talent has been shown to be nothing. The man cant coach. It should be a pretty simple decision if you ask me. This is why I wished he would have been fired mid-season, so he cant save his job with a few lucky wins and keep Liberty in the bowl of mediocrity for years to come. Beating teams in possibly the worst conference in college basketball does not give me any reason to think he should stay.

Obviously you all feel differently and that is fine by me, but I just cant find any reason to retain the man. I hope we win the conference tournament, but if we make the NCAA tournament... we are going to get plastered and it will show once again how far we are from having a legitimate impact. If we want to go to a D-1A conference we cannot be satisfied with what he have here with the current basketball program.

Incredible run so far, gotta be honest i was 99.9% sure we'd be 1 and done. Speaking of next year, shouldn't we have more schollies available since Jourdan and Assinessi left or was Kelly not on scholly. Oviously Kemrite is taking Speaks scholly and Burrus and Layer will be back. We should be some better just need another Speaks type player.

I'm still not convinced he's the right guy for the job long term but like others have said he's going to get next year now. Hope it's the right decision.

even if he wins, no way he gets an extension. but it's JB so i wouldn't be surprised.

But as i said in the other thread, the team has talent. he's just missing a PG and an athletic 6'5-6'7 wing/guard. He has the shooters and bigs in place.

next year could be special depending who he adds in the recruiting class.

I am sure Layer does things the "right" way but that doesn't change the fact that none of his players actually like him. None of them like playing for him. Sure, he is actually a Christian but that doesnt change the fact that he has no ability to relate to the players or coach them. Obviously, these are my opinions. I am not trying to create a big controversy... so sorry if they sound over-bearing.

You can't bring a coach back with one year left on his contract. It's simply not how it's done. If he come back hell get 2 more years at his nice salary. This week may have made him 1/2 million dollars!

Considering the circumstances you are in the minority at this point. If the players didnt like playing for him (or at least didnt before the tournament), then they probably would have simply folded up shop and let CCU run all over them on Wednesday and just gotten the season over with so he could have been run out of town

BJ not necessarily the case. There are several examples of teams coming together on their own and making a run and despising their coach. On the big stage there is the NC State team under Valvno. The IU Final Four team under Davis and scores of other examples across the spectrum

So one person says in their opinion that the players don't like playing for Layer with absolutely no evidence to back it up and now it is a legitimate topic of conversation? Ridiculous.

Do you have proof that they DO like playing for him?

While you two nancies argue the merits of that...

Liberty trailed twice in the game...3-2 for 1:53 in the first half and 12-11 for :27 in the first half, after we took the lead 13-12, we never trailed again...though they did tie the game once late in the going
