SOFTBALL???? haha cmon man..why is this even being brought up in the mens basketball forum on a subject of why we are missing the mid major boat...baseball and softball have no influence on this topic..and really dont matter in the grand scheme of things

Bigsouthking wrote:He isnt better than Marshall -- Marshall percentage from 3 is staggering and his FT % is awesome, problem is he doesnt get enough shots or FT attempts...
He isnt as strong as JCS -- a better shooter off the dribble than JCS, but not better at getting to the rim and finishing...

Rowsey went 10-28 in that game in Roanoke -- not very efficient!

Rowsey is the first below 6 foot guard Eddie B has signed...Rowsey will struggle to defend, but he will be a threat no doubt.

For all you guys that want Central VA kids, who is good??? in college now?? Not many is my point.

YaYa Anderson @ Radford, from Fluvanna -- not a Liberty type kid,
Marshall Wood @ VT, Rustburg -- you may get him to transfer back, he is unhappy
Nick Gore @ VMI, Waynesboro -- role player, not a differnece maker

kids LU should have offered & maybe they did, IDK --
Darren White @ Dan River HS -- but signed with JMU so no big deal, then went to juco, should have been on him then.
Nick Barbour @ GW Danville -- High Point obviously was a great one

But in LU athletics defense -- central VA kids are partly dumb and have an thug mentality of themselves... most private school kids are transplants and dont want to stay in VA for college anyway. kids in Roanoke are overrated... besides Redick, whose been good??? Lynchburg public schools has never had a D-1 caliber player... very bad competition, you can drive 2 hours south or 3 north and find better players.
Jury is still out a bit on Wood ... Not sure he's unhappy as much as he's frustrated with the fact that this has turned into a total waste year for him because of the injury. I'm not sure he was ready to play as a true freshman in the ACC to begin with, and once he got hurt, he lost all of his confidence. He's an absolute liability right now but JJ has no choice but to play him because Tech has zero depth.

It is possible that 'beat writer' don't know as much as 'insiders' like myself.... Not saying the kid will leave VT but it's possible....and to tie the past 3 days worth post in this thread together, my point being (& Purple Haize will like this) Liberty could get this kid to transfer back if he does leave Hokie town.

If he were to transfer and sit a year, he would have 3 years left. Smith, Gielo and Sommy would all be Seniors and JVP would be gone, so it would fill a need. In this case you are talking about a truly local kid who could attract folks who live 10 minutes away as opposed to Rockbridge County, which involves a treck across the mountains.

Too bad we couldn't have both! Sprinkle in 3 kids from Texas to keep Sly off those meds, A few home schoolers because, well that's what we do. A DC/Baltimore contingent and a couple of Indiana kids for an outside threat. Maybe even a Foreign kid or two..... :D

Wood has ties to two FSN on air personalities, Matt Hildebrand (coached him at Rustburg) and Paul Nazigian (athletic director at Rustburg at the time).

As a Wisconsin alum and Tony Bennett-Uva fan I understand the lack of enthusiasm for the slower paced defense oriented type of basketball. I struggle to watch it sometimes myself. BUT it has yielded the best record and most NCAA invites in its long history and that has to be worth consideration. WI is not a basketball talent rich state but there is a steady supply of smart hardnosed players that can do well in the UW system. Otherwise they have to go out of state and compete for the better leftovers as they will never get the top 5* type guys that only look at KY, UNC, UCLA, KU, Duke etc. UW has decided that the local WI/Minn kids that will stay around 4-5 years and work hard--and study a little are just a more realistic fit. After the dust settle you are what you are and you better figure how to make the best of that. LU has some "unique" constraints and you just have to accept that as a given. In the long run the slower defensive style might be the best fit for LU--but you have to win using it too. Even this style requires the right guys to run it. But the results can be fun.
