East Carolina and Liberty are the latest college football programs to get in the recruiting mix for Reynolds senior John Nick Setterlind.

The Flames have joined Gardner-Webb in offering a scholarship to the All-Mountain Athletic Conference and All-WNC linebacker who made 123.5 tackles (12 for a loss) for the MAC 4-A champion Rockets (9-3) in 2012.

Setterlind took a visit to Greenville over the weekend. The Pirates would like for him to redshirt next fall, with the potential for a scholarship starting with the 2014 season, Reynolds coach Shane Laws said.

National-signing day for high school football players is Wednesday.

Verbally committed to Gardner-Webb before switching to LU. Intentions were Liberty from day 1 but needed the offer.

He is a legitimate Christian and is just the kind of athlete that will represent LU well.

New to football. Focused on baseball until the past two to three years. Thus lots of room to grow.

Brother played one year at Carson-Newman before transferring to Liberty (although he is not on the team as of now).

My question is (especially after watching some interviews down at the warehouse where I work) will he be the kind of player that can not only lead on the field, but can be a spiritual leader by the time he is a senior (if not sooner). Good luck to him and cant wait to see his letter come across tomorrow

woah woah woah, if we're going to be in a competition, let's notice that it was posted here a full 9 hours before being mentioned there. Just with very little info.

Sorry I didnt add more info. It was late and I knew others would get to it and do a better job than I. Just figured I would at least break the news.

Thanks for the heads up, Steffattack. And welcome to the LU family, John Nick!

The reason why I didn't adjust him to verbal commit earlier is because on Twitter in indicated that he just been offered by East Carolina & LU. But it didn't indicate a commitment. This verified everything that Steffattack suggested:

Reynolds’ John Nick Setterlind

Reynolds senior linebacker John Nick Setterlind has committed to play college football for Liberty.

Setterlind was an All-Mountain Athletic Conference and All-WNC linebacker last fall who made 123.5 tackles (12 for a loss) for the MAC 4-A champion Rockets (9-3).

Setterlind is the second Western North Carolina football player to commit to the Flames, joining Asheville High lineman Jesse Karnezis. Former Asheville wide receiver Justin Fritts (who now attends Charlotte Vance) has also committed to Liberty.
