Yeah, we could probably compete with Alabama right away. Especially considering we've never made the FCS playoffs. It's pretty obvious that conferences just can't wait to add us.

I didn't know Ball State went to a Bowl game the year we beat them. Huh, who knew. And how exactly will being an FBS Independent either make scheduling easier or get us into a Bowl. Not that I'm trying to bully or demean you.....

NORFOLK Old Dominion's football team almost certainly will be declared eligible for the Conference USA title in 2014 - a year earlier than expected - league commissioner Britton Banowsky said.

Obviously if C-USA expands by pulling in some Sun Belt schools, that would be very beneficial for our predicament.

Tulsa now appears much more likely to be on the move somewhere ... perhaps nBE or MWC.

During the last 20 days - after returning from Memphis, Tenn., where they watched the Golden Hurricane football team defeat Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl - University of Tulsa officials resumed their survey of the Conference USA condition, their dialogue with representatives of other schools and leagues, and their conversations with significant donors who occupy positions within TU's inner circle.

It wouldn't likely be the same as a bowl sponsor. But the best I can tell it would be the first time a school and bowl name were exactly the same. Several Texas schools (Texas Christian & Texas A&M) played in the Texas Bowl before it changed names here in Houston to the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas. But never the Longhorns.

I still find it hard to believe the SBC has not moved quicker to add programs. What happened to the ASU/GSU talk from a few months ago? It seems a but quiet down in New Orleans, perhaps a bit too quiet.

The bottom line is the Sun Belt must expand with at least 4-6 teams. Most of those teams will be FCS "call-ups". I know their fans do not want to hear Liberty's name mentioned, but it's getting to the point where the Sun Belt will have no choice but to call up Liberty.

I know Benson saw this day coming. He wanted to be proactive from day 1, however it was the Sun Belt presidents that wanted to slow things down. They better do something because they're 2-4 departures away from becoming the new WAC.

At this point, it would be in the Sun Belt's best interest to wait through the spring. The clock starts on June 1st (not positive of the date, but I'm not in the mood to look it up). While it could benefit a school's recruiting in the next few weeks if it was announced tomorrow, there is no distinct advantage for the conference to add members now.

This is not the WAC. If the Sun Belt conference only had four members, they would reload with a host of FCS moveups. There are schools (Liberty, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State & Lamar) that are currently pursuing an FBS invitation. There are others (JMU, Sam Houston State) that appear to be moving in that direction. New Mexico State and Idaho are still available and will sign on to any football conference to stabilize their scheduling efforts.

Only an online, loud "minority" .... I think most SB fans would welcome LU. Especially as they learn what she has to offer.

The following tweets are from Jan 18th, but they are still relevant... As I mentioned before, I think WKU is the domino that needs to fall in order for Liberty to get an invite. Hopefully we fall under the "All options" comment.
Brent Thibodeaux ‏@BrentThibodeaux
#SunBelt will look to add two schools for the 2014 season. FCS schools is the most likely choice but #Idaho & #NMST are under consideration.
Brent Thibodeaux ‏@BrentThibodeaux
Now all #SunBelt schools will play a seven game conference football schedule. Each school will be looking to add one more OOC game in 2013.
Brent Thibodeaux ‏@BrentThibodeaux
Don't expect the #SunBelt to make any conference additions before June 1st. All options are on the table at the moment.

The WKU domino doesn't have to fall but I agree it would be key. Although losing the Nashville areas schools makes us even more on an outlier unless we come in with some others in our region.

I think the option that makes most sense is to take JMU, Liberty, Appy and GA Southern. That would give each new team a traveling partner and would secure the Belt in case of more raids from Conf. USA.

JMU is not an option as far as anybody knows. There is no evidence to think they are a part of this in any way other than the fact that they have a big stadium. Which is not really evidence at all.

Logic I agree. Tom in Lazybrook has issues with God more than Liberty. He's a bitter dude. Panama is not much better. I've stopped trying to have an adult conversation with either one.

None of this MATTERS, these tweets. SBC's personal feel good board about who they "think they want" is of no relevance. I hope they Read my post and spend 100000million hours pretending like they Matter....Will get a spot when and where we deserve it, until then will keep working on that ACC invite ...:) were way to progressive for SBC. We got this Far since 1971(as I look down at my class ring to remind myself).why would we waste time in the SBC anyway?? Will be light years ahead of them in a decade or less.

I wish the SBC poster would see this. If they would just step foot on campus and see for themselves...yes, in 10 years...less even, we're easily going to surpass all the current SBC schools. We're already further along than many with regards to facilities, staffing, budgets, etc.

While many of us loathed Obama's reelection, from the LUO and ultimately Liberty's perspective there is a silver lining...federal loans aren't going anywhere for another 4 years at least and we'll gladly continue to take that 500 million a year.

Realignment looming? Big 12 ADs discuss expansion

Chip Brown
Orangebloods.com Columnist

Among the agenda items for Big 12 athletic directors at meetings in Dallas on Monday and Tuesday is a "philosophical" discussion about possible expansion, multiple sources close to the situation told Orangebloods.com on Wednesday.

While the degree of intensity about expansion in the Big 12 ranges from school to school, there is a sigh of relief the issue is finally being discussed - at all - under the watch of new commissioner Bob Bowlsby, sources said.

There was a fear among some members that Bowlsby would simply follow the wishes of Texas, which has been outspoken in keeping the Big 12 at 10 members, in large part, because of scheduling ease and to avoid a conference title game in football.

Realignment is starting to make me really hate big time college athletics. I wish the FCS format was adopted by the big boys because that would put an end to this nonsense.

But as defenders of the free market, we must take the bad with the good. If FSU can get more money in the Big 12 and sees the ACC as the 5th conference outside if the big 4, why not go? Loyalty? Sto who? To what? Such ideas have little place in a free market.
