I know I'm about a day late on this but wanted to touch on the FB post issue on LU's page. I am a liberal Christian, I haven't hid it and it is my beliefs. I don't judge anyone for theirs and think that ultimately we all want the same ends for our country. I commented on the post, not to spark partisanship but to describe my dismay that LU posted something that extreme on FB. I came to LU understanding its founding and its history, I'm fine with LU being a conservative school, I really am. I am bothered by the fact that the school can be too extreme in these regards. I'm tired of it, it's 2012, respect the fact that not all students (especially LUO students, who are a representative of the school and come from different backgrounds, not to mention a majority) share right wing views. There's nothing wrong with those views, there is however something wrong with alienating a large portion of the overall student body. My comment among other's was deleted and I can no longer post on the page. I will be sending a complaint to the school as soon as I get a chance, for the amount of money I paid to this school and the respect I have for the Christian mission I should not feel alienated by my school like I feel now.

Sorry for that, I had to vent! :D

That part is the most bothersome of all. Liberty quite often doesn't live up to its own name and that's just another example. It's a shame the school can't figure out how to be Christian first and Republican (not conservative) second.

I hope the school rights their wrong towards you, that whomever runs their Facebook page gets a clue about dealing with a diverse Christian student body, and that policies/procedures are put in place that keep Liberty from embarrassing itself in such a way again.

don't blame you for your frustration. I think we all hate Liberty's politics and censorship

any way apparently Trey Falwell made a racist remark add this to the build up of Liberty/Johnnie Moore with the politics, speakers, etc... it should make it one interesting convo tomorrow!

Right there, theres the problem with this partisan mentality at LU in one sentence. As far as Trey Falwell's comments, that is racist and cannot be tolerated.

One of the traits I loved the most about Jerry Sr was that he was genuine in his theological and political conservatism, but always a liberal in matters of grace. There was never a hint that he judged another inferior or classed them according to race or ethnic background.

It obviously was a play on words. You can't joke around anymore? I'm sure Tray feels horrible about the reaction here.

I have a very close friend at work, he's black, a Democrat and like a brother to me. We joke around and talk politics all the time. Obama is bi-racial, I joked with him that Obama would enter office as the first black president, but that by the time he exited office they would stick him back on us ..... am I a raciest? My buddy doesn't think so. We have a blast with this kind of stuff?

You people calling it racist is the exact reason why we lose.

Get over it, it's a freaking joke. I mean, do you feel so insecure about your own self that you can't resort to any humor? Get over yourselves.

I am with on Treys comments although its not something I would put out in public with his last name. I'm sure ill see that on FB from both sides
However, the comment by Matt Helms is totally out of bounds and inappropriate

Huh? No Matt said that "black" represents the darkness of evil and sin, NOT the blackness of skin pigmentation.

Remember when the liberal media went nuts after Rick Perry talked about the "black cloud hanging over Washington?" Same thing. You know what he meant. The cloud of socialism, not skin pigmentation.

As a person of color (and part of the segment that isnt easily offended by everything unlike some people of my color), I wasnt offended by Trey's comment. Could he have worded it better? Absolutely...as someone who carries the Falwell name, he should know that things he says will be under greater scrutiny. That said, the people who feel like its their job to find offense in everything really need to take a good look in the mirror and get over themselves.

And DB89, you might want to work on that because youre gonna get offended an awful lot if you do it that way.

"It looks like the Presidential race will remain black."

I'm not interpreting it as a racially-based comment. It is a racially-based comment.

Beej, I'm a big fan of yours, and I would do anything in the world for you or IMHO, but wrong is wrong. I won't even get into the issue of why, with respect to the Alumni association, it should never have happened.

I can't see the comment, and I could care less to follow Liberty on Facebook, but I do know that this generation has been trained to be offended at pretty much anything, and don't really realize that they're being that way, so it's really hard not to offend.

Would an apology make it all better? Maybe we can arrange for some sensativity training for this Tray kid. Nothing like a good brainwashing to make this all go away.

I am aware that it is a racially based comment DB89...that said, even though I very much believe he could have worded it better, Im not gonna sit here and be offended by it because at the end of the day, nothing that is said or done on this earth will matter in eternity.

To look at that FB post from Trey and not think that it was racially motivated is crazy, it is exactly what it is. The Falwell name is synonymous with Liberty and anything like this will land right in the news and only hurt the outside perspective of LU. It is unacceptable plain and simple and the political rhetoric needs to be adjusted at this school. I'm sure that a good amount of African American LU students would take great offense to that comment.

I'm not really offended by it, I just posted the screenshot to gauge interest/reactions. I just think it's an incredibly poor choice to make a comment like that when you are the son of the chancellor and your name is Jerry Falwell III.

How do you know it's racially motivated?

Because I read it? It's pretty cut and dry if you ask me. I even had some other LU alum friends who were disgusted by that and the LU FB page fiasco. There is no defending that comment or the LU FB post, there is apologizing and moving forward.
