Is there no one accountable for a program that can't beat Norfolk St at home or compete with a mediocre Coastal Carolina? We may never get over the hump always making excuses. Someone stand up and call it what it is and resolve to do what needs to be done to build a championship program.

If this were the 3rd or 4th year you would have exactly that.

I have a hard believing that with the lacks approach of many comments. We have enough talent to beat a poor NSU team and compete with CCU. Yet the pass the buck to Rocco in in full affect. Excuses never lead to championships...fond a way to compete.

The idea that we should be even hinting at the need for a coaching change after less than a full season, when we have lost a boatload of players including 2 preseason all americans for the year is ludicrus. Am I happy with how the season has gone? Of course not. But we cant overreact and start a coaching merrygoround. For those who are pining for the Rocco years, keep in mind that he only won at Coastal once, and that was by 2 pointswith an NFL RB carrying the load.

At this point a coaching change is not even the question. Let's just be accountable to what needs to get done to get competitive again first....LU football has lost some serious ground.

ok how about we just try and breakdown the year by position as someone(i forgot who) did this at the beginning of the year

Offense.

QB- started as revolving until decided to go future (#6) instead of present (#18) 6 is still in his first year of collegiate ball but hopefully can stop his Brett Farve game killing type of mistakes. Just manage and I think team will be fine.

OL- Avg at best, then you lose an AA during the year and then you lose another OL this year. I think they do a decent job at run blocking but are worse at pass pro, then throw in the fact that the WR can't seperate, makes there job a lil worse.

WR- this unit can only be described as avg to below avg. Besides PK(#9) who is really a 2 or 3 there were and are no playmaking types in this unit. PK is being touted as the #1 and he has to be used multiple ways to be more effective. Me personally I would put him in the slot and give him the 2 way go option on his routes, less time having dbs disrupt his routes. Dutra(#17) is another number 3 type and Ferguson (#83) another 3 type, reason I say a #3 is because if you were to double the #1 WR with a S and #2 DB he has not shown enough to beat another teams #1 DB. Looks like a curl dig type of WR with the occasional shot at going deep. The rest of the wr's really havent shown up and there must be a reason, (understanding of playbook, or the others are better). All above = AVG to below AVG

TE- this unit has been above avg Apon and Gunn could be used a lil more but at same time for them to be effective the run game has to be more effective as to create the matchup problems with them on LB's or S.

RB's- this unit is for the most part carrying the team. (#20) AA is the power of the unit while (#24) SCH is the speed. Me personally I like the mix of two even tho I think they should try to find a way to get (#2) DA an extra touch or two maybe being the 3rd down scat back with some flares or screens, maybe even putting him in the slot as a matchup problem for a lb.

What position(s) need to be improved...obviously play calling needs to be addressed...inside the 5 yard line. Defensively why are we giving up so many points to CCU and GWU? Too much time passing the buck

Defense

DL- This unit to me is doing an good job up front for the most part, a lil bit undersized but still formidable. Heart and soul is #60 BL but the presence of #46 makes a huge difference with the rush. I think some more pressure off the edge from the DE could be a huge help.

LB - What more needs to be said without #45 this unit would be at a loss. Way too many injuries in this core group and with that being said makes it hard to stop the run consistently because you cant find alot of chemistry.

DB- What I would have considered a strong point at the beginning of the year, now with the loss of another AA, has started to struggle. When KF went down that was a huge loss. I heard alot of talk about #1 RA the transfer from GT but he has leg issues and was also out so that had us using #14 KS as a #1 corner and then using #11 undersized but heart as a nickle. The Safety spot has been solid with #27 and #8 but the big problem I see is that there are no playmakers in the secondary either. #19 WA is good but as a unit we struggle to get off the field on 3rd downs, one I perceive as very important becuz either were off the field and they punt or they keep drives alive.

Special Teams

I like the kicking unit, a very good weapon to have gotta stay healthy #49
our KO teams have to be fixed giving teams to much on there returns
our KOR units will be very dangerous with the return next year of #3 KF and #2 DA

just to inconsistent but hopefully can be addressed.

You seem to always be promoting that the administration and staffs always need more time? So why have some programs not progressed? Let's get real answers...is CCU and SBU a better recruiting draw?

I'm personally getting tired of hearing how Coastal is a mediocre team. They are a good team, they finally seem to have a coaching staff that can take charge and get them to perform on the field. No, we shouldn't have lost as bad as we did against them, but to say they're mediocre is inaccurate at best. I guess Stony Brook is mediocre too?

We should beat every Big South team we play. Not all those victories will or should be blowouts. Coastal and Stony Brook are the two teams that provide us with a good competitive rival -- they are both solid teams with talented players and decent coaching.

We should have beaten Norfolk State. We should have beaten Lehigh (don't hear anyone complaining about that game ... wonder why?). We could have beaten Wake Forest. We the fans have gotten spoiled, and when we don't get our dominant season we're ready to toss the coach under the bus before his first season is even over. This team is going to struggle -- the leadership on offense graduated, so they're waiting for someone to step up there. There is no one reason for this lackluster season -- new coaching staff, new talent at skill positions, lots of injuries to key players, etc. Take any one of those out of the equation, and we've got a good season, and we probably win one or more of the big games we've lost.

They're 4-4 and their best win is either 4-4 NC A&T or 3-6 Furman (in 3 OT). They're the definition of a mediocre team and they beat us by nearly as much as they beat VMI.

Definition of MEDIOCRE

: of moderate quality, value, ability, or performance : ordinary, so-so

Are they FCS Top 25?

Norfolk State sucks out loud this year. They're 0-6 in the MEAC. They've lost by at least 2 TDs in 5 of their last 6 games. That doesn't mean NC A&T is anything other than a middling MEAC team, 2 of their 4 wins are against teams below the FCS level, and actually helps prove the point that Coastal is mediocre this year.

This year is definitely turned into an interesting year. Definitely disappointing but I think this team is young and getting younger with all the injuries. I think that next year will be a big test for the Gill era. He's had a enormous amount of issues and destractions. Injuries and family deaths. Tough season for sure.

Give him a full recruiting season and an off season to do all that needs to be done. I think a sophmore QB with a year experience will make a big difference to the offense. We'll see what happens defensively. This time next year I would certainly hope the story would different.

BTW, I can hardly wait to read this board in two weeks after the Stoney Brook game. Be prepared, send the women and children shopping! That team is coming to town to kick our hiney's and may actually put a 50 spot on us! That will make for some good reading!!
