I like the names on the jerseys regardless of the reason. It makes them easier to follow. I know that I was much more familiar with the players when I could see their name and relate it to a number. Now, I just catch a number and really not good at remembering who has the jersey. Being old doesn't help either. :D

Alright alright children, to your corners...

Anyway, I would prefer names on the back as well...I wish we could come up with an American flag type design for a special uniform that can be done in a way that doesnt look butt ugly and then maybe be auctioned off for the Wounded Warrior Project or something like that

I fear I have to agree on the logo -- I've never been a big fan, and it doesn't carry from the distance, which is kinda what you need in a helmet logo...

On the names, I think it's a good idea to put them there, but imagine the reason they don't is the extra expense. If the expense isn't an object, I can't figure why you wouldn't put the names on.

It's not that big of a deal either way. But to say its 'easier for players to get to the next level if their names are on the back of their jersey is just silly
We can argue for days, but 99.9% of all college football teams have their names on their jerseys - are they all wrong too?

This is a lie.

To get name strips, tackle twill letters for those names, put the letters on the strips, and them sew the strips onto the jerseys is close to $100 per jersey.

100 jerseys at
$100/jersey
Equals $10,000 per color.
I don't see how it could possibly cost that much for the lettering, but maybe it's true.

Is $10k really a hurdle?

Which is a lie? There are 2 quotes there? I know Proto and I can argue all day so that's not a lie. Asking a question isn't a lie. Bill Obriens reason for putting names on the back of unis isn't a lie.
So where is the lie?

I think the assertion that 99.9 percent of college teams have names on the back of their jersey's. Its a tough number to verify because you would have to talk to every head equipment manager at every school that fields a college (NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA)

Ask and Ye shall receive. Sorry I've been a little busy down here in Macon fellas. I miss you guys.

On the topic of names on the back of jerseys. If you did it with a decent tackle twill letter and plate it would cost well into the 10k range. In the past Liberty did a name plate and heat pressed letters which is about half that but ultimately that decision is up to the head coach. There are plenty of schools that do not put the name on their jerseys including but not limited to- Notre Dame, Penn state(until this year) Colorado, Army, USC, University of Central Florida, Air Force(which instead lists the plane on which they work), Drake, Mercer, Georgia State, VMI, ULM, Troy and others.
As for the NFL scouts, they are given a roster sheet every time they visit. if they are too lazy to read it they probably shouldn't be scouts. Just my two cents.

My other .02 is that if you are worried about the cost of names on some jerseys and haven't figured out a way to capitalize on the merchandising of them, then maybe all this money that is claimed to be available for FBS is not there either. If its just a personal coaches thing thats fine, but if you are saying its because of money then I can see other potential problems with money arising in the future most likely.

haha thats a good one,

I can understand the marketing with the names but what they do instead is just sell that particular players jersey just without the name on the back, same thing imho. Due to the fact that the school already has the players name on the back, the fans know who that particular player, then the school just sells that jersey without the name on the back. Nothing but a very small technicality

If someone is good enough to warrant a random fan wanting his jersey then he will be noticed without the name there.

Thats what I just said, schools sell the players jerseys anyway without the name on the back, but do you thnk fans are stupid enough to not know which players jersey that they are trying to buy anyway, name on the back or not they know whos jersey it is

If they already know, then what's the point in putting names on the jerseys on the field?
