I agree that Liberty should pick their uniforms and stick with them. I like more traditional looking uniforms. Helmet wise, I think Liberty should consider going with a helmet the color of Oklahoma's with a white LU on the side. I think the current helmet with the eagle doesn't look good, its too modern looking (too busy) for my taste.

I think the helmets would look better with either the new fighting sparky logo (like the alumni decal) or simply LU on the side. I am not a big fan of the current eagle logo with liberty flames written inside it (too busy, unreadable from a distance, and cheap looking). IMO, Gardner Webb and Coastal Carolina have better looking helmets. I noticed that more of the apparel has the fighting sparky logo, so maybe we're transitioning to it. What do ya'll think?

The amount of expensive things with the flaming eagle logo on it is astounding. Trash cans, scoreboards, Club level seat covers, seat backs, etc. times 10,000. That would cost a fortune to replace. Learn to love it.

+1 Need names on back. Looks cheap, like we didn't want to spend for the lettering.

where do you get that number of 10,000 for names on jerseys, thats crazy and whomever is asking that price should be arrested for stealing, it should cost no more than $20 for a jersey and at 65 players is only $1300

I get that number from our equipment manager. He told me that the year we took them off.

$10,000 means it would cost over $150 per jersey to have names put on the backs (assuming 65 jerseys). I'd imagine the $10,000 figure would be more than the cost of the jerseys themselves.

You guys really think there are only 65 jerseys? We have 99 players on the roster. They all have jerseys.

To get name strips, tackle twill letters for those names, put the letters on the strips, and them sew the strips onto the jerseys is close to $100 per jersey.

100 jerseys at
$100/jersey
Equals $10,000 per color.

That's such old thinking. Just because you don't have a name on the back doesn't mean you are any less of a team player. That is a joke!!! These kids deserve the same ability to get noticed and have a chance to make it on the next stage. What is wrong if a kid gets his name out there? Fans like it, plan and simple... 95% of fans don;t read media guides or study numbers, but can see those names on the jersey. Could you imagine a pro team taking off their names? No way... There is a reason for that.

Yeah, because Penn St never had anyone make it too the pros
I'm pretty sure that no scout says 'That kids good, but if only he had a name on the back of his jersey' or 'This kid Johnson sucks but he has a name that fits on the back of his jersey, lets draft him!'

Yeah, but this is a different age. "The Social Age" and the average fan that is familiar with an athletes name is more likely to tweet, post, blog or mention him by name. #haize

And we aren't Penn State... Our guys have to capitalize on ALL exposure they can get.

I think there is a policy about using the words 'exposed' and Penn State in the same post. I'll check with Sly and get back to you.

One of the more minor reasons for the names on the back of the jersey is so that NFL scouts can recognize players more easily now that Penn State is opening up its facilities to NFL scouts due to the four-year bowl ban and other sanctions

your talking about this penn state

and for the record a nice WE R LU chant wou;dnt b half bad

Actually BillObrien stated the reason they put their names on the back of the jersey this year was he wanted to recognize those players who chose to stick around and help rebuild the program.
It's not that big of a deal either way. But to say its 'easier for players to get to the next level if their names are on the back of their jersey is just silly

You said it right there. He wanted to recognize his players. What a great concept. Why can't we recognize people who play for Liberty. We can argue for days, but 99.9% of all college football teams have their names on their jerseys - are they all wrong too? Not saying it's a major factor of playing at the next level - I just think it helps identify players by name who might get lost in huddle.

Did Liberty Football just go through a huge nationally scrutinized pedophile case? Then the 2 situations aren't the same at all. The point I'm countering is that having names on the back of a players jerseys makes their chances at playing on Sundays better. It's just silly.
