As I attended the disappointing loss at Lehigh last year, it was a no brainer that this game would be chosen for this year’s annual trip from PA. Who wouldn’t want to see redemption for the missed field goal at the end of the game in 2011? I can honestly say the results of the game on Saturday, while disappointing, did not overshadow the amazing college football environment Liberty puts together.
Upon evaluating the overall game day experience, (team performance on a separate thread) anyone with a decade or more of Liberty football awareness has to be impressed at the level of dedication from both faculty and students to the program. I am in awe at the level of support from the students and the now, “it is what you do on Saturday’s,” attitude regarding game attendance. I can remember when a good Saturday afternoon Madden Tournament in the dorm was actually preferred vs. attending a game knowing what the outcome would be, besides freezing your *%&#$ off as well.
Now when I look across it brings a level of joy to see the students in lock step support. Thus, my positive evaluation from this years trip is not the fancy stadium upgrades or the “4QF” that was everywhere on Saturday. This years hats off award is for the amazing turn out and game day atmosphere that the Liberty Student brings to the table on game day.
Now to the negative critique; what in heaven’s name was up with the pre-game entry? As a fellow marching band member for one and only one football season, (getting pelted with marshmallows was enough to drive me away) it is all about timing. The band marches on the field, songs begin to play you bring out the “red coat” dude to do his thing but giving him enough time for the moment. I felt the entire thing was so rushed and out of place it was a comedy real. If you watch the tape closely, you will actually see him reach the 50 year line, and then begin his LU chant debacle the entire time jogging towards the end zone as he was running out of time.
In conclusion, I now understand those of you on here who have posted regarding your disappointment in the pre-game entry. It is not that I don’t like the idea; it just needs to be done correctly. I stood there watching the guy in the end zone waiting for the all clear to run out. He needs to go out there and be given enough time to get things going. He literally ran out and kept on running the entire length of the field. It was so bad that I was actually laughing at the guy. Thus, this concludes my 2012 annual Liberty home game critique. “IT’S ALL ABOUT TIMING!”

In other news---Gillville was rocking last night. Over 60 some students showed up, which would make that the largest attendance to date. A tradition has begun, and I have a feeling it will continue to grow.
