I was in the Lids store in Washington DC today and they had a collection of about 10 different Coastal hats. Thought it was odd at best. Why don't we have national merchandise chains selling our products. Certainly we have more national pull then CCU.

There isn't a Lids in DC. Did you mean Pentagon/Arlington?

CCU has a very wealthy "coach" who bought himself a college team and is likely marketing them out the wazoo.

That's a ridiculously stupid and ignorant statement. Coastal hats have been in Lids store for years. It's something their marketing department went after about 4-5 years ago. Credit goes to Matt Hogue for that.

I know of another Big South school who was offered a similar deal about 8 years ago....

They haven't been in the DC area stores before. I'll chalk that up to the new coach that paid for their new baseball field, new astroturf practice field, and has a net worth valued by several sources in the $1.2 billion range.

He also appears to be a pretty good coach. A double overtime win at Furman...not an easy thing to do.

They hung around with Toledo as well. It will be interesting to see how they do at App.

Which is interesting because he was awful coaching in the UFL last year. The key is, he doesn't actually do any of the coaching. He runs the football team like he's a CEO by putting the best people he can into the various coaching positions and letting them do their job while he recruits and sells the brand. With the money he has to build things himself, it just might work.
