we've averaged over 16K the last couple seasons (with quite a few 19K+ games). 19.2K is max capacity but the next round of expansion is said to be taking place this winter so we will be over 20K come 2013

So we will have even more empty seats...

I get the mindset of wanting to expand with the goal of moving to FBS, but if we can barely break 15,000 for an instate opponent for the home season opener I don't see how we are going to fill a stadium with 20,000+ anytime soon....

I am sure logic or BJ will educate me though

The stadium expansion is for the future, when we have more on campus students, more younger-local alumni, and hopefully more fan support. When The Bill's expansion is complete and pushing 60k, it'll be easier to get UVA, VTech and others to come to us rather than us going to them. And if we were to get in CUSA, I can definately see The Bill packing the house for ECU and ODU easily.
"If you build it they will come" is the mentality, after seeing what this campus has changed into in just 5 years I can't wait to see 5 more, or 10, cannot imagine 20!

they haven't done it yet with the current expansion. I am not saying they won't, because I believe they will. I just think that we need to be in a situation where we are averaging 20,000 a game before we expand again. Much like what we did with the last expansion. We were averaging over capacity for a couple of years and the demand justified the expansion. The demand doesn't justify another expansion quite yet.

thank you for that great contribution to this thread...

If that is true then why haven't "they" come and filled the place on a regular basis yet?

I am not saying we won't, but I just don't get building onto something that you can't even fill up currently....

I know, I know...we need to be attractive to FBS conferences. I know all the normal answers. I just don't agree. I hate empty looking stadiums that exists all over the place in lower level FBS conferences.

I agree with you postie except for the fact that the next expansion calls for 4000 more seats on the student side. A side we are consistently over filling, and planning on adding 7-8000 more on campus students in the next 5 years.

I also think a more attractive student side with better restrooms, concessions, and sightlines will enhance the students experience at the game. All this will lead to more students at the games. I see these extra 4000 seats being filled consistently 5 years from now. Easily.

Now back to how we fill the home side...

Yeah that's a good point. That is why I wasn't being overly opinionated about it because I am sure the people making the decisions on this whole thing are thinking it through a lot more then I have time for.

I agree with the restrooms, concessions, etc on the student side. It needs to improve that is for sure.

There's like a 2 hour interval where the old meds are wearing off but he cant take the new meds yet. You caught him at the worst possible time...its like poking a bear about a week to early from hibernation.

It was more for your attempt at sarcasm adam...anyway, 4000 more on the student side does make a lot more sense than trying to make it a mirror image on the "Baptist side". No matter then weather, the students show up in force, and with the growth of the university (both actual and planned), having 12,000 red clad students on a Saturday isnt unreachable

I'm watching the Towson/W&M game on some NBC Sports channel and Towson has a hashtag embedded on their field turf. Is that stuff easy to swap out? If so, good idea. If not, that may seem dated in a few years.

I saw that, Kudos to them for getting on NBC Sports Net and in HD no less! I think the hashtag would be cool if it could be changed out periodically or something that won't change like #LibertyFootball or #4QF something like that

Where did I attempt sarcasm? Was it the joke about SuperJon a couple pages ago? I'm confused. Feel free to quote the post so I know what you're referencing.
