In the midst of this great win today I was shocked at how many times me, my friends, and those around me were told to STOP cheering. Of course, we were giving the CSU players a hard time...it's what we do. We didn't cross any lines, or even use the word "suck" which we were asked not to do by the AD. We get to the stadium early, harass before kick off, and throughout the game we choose a few "lucky" players to pick on. Today I was astonished at the LU people around us who got mad that we were doing this, and even told us on several occasions to stop. Somehow...and I haven't quite figured it out yet, Christians aren't allowed to joke and tease others in a spirit of fun and games (like a college football game) because that is not "right". We even had one of our super spiritual band members tell us today that the difference between them and us is that they "glorify God with their music and we don't." Now the the AD and Football team have turned the corner, in order for us to take this next step the fans are going to have to stop pussyfooting (as Jerry would say) around and start making some noise....fair-weather fans really tick me off. We were told by a certain "band director" that we had crossed the line and so we asked to just explain to us how we crossed the line, and he couldn't do it...i guess just growing up around REAL football at Florida State made me to calice to this clown show we call a fan base, I mean come on...some of these people need to experience life outside the "baptist bubble".

On another note, the coach for CSU is a class act. Not only did he talk to us before the game, but during the game he was cordial as well. He even sent a note over via one of his assistants which said: "-LU fans- Best wishes to a great group of kids - coach phil. 4:13

Not only that, but when I was trying to trade a tshirt at the end of the game, he asked me to walk with him back to the bus and we had a great talk the way there....I am impressed with guys who are able to keep their cool in tough games, and after tough losses. This guy will be a great coach for CCU because he has character, and his character will help build the program. Best of luck CSU!

On a final note, I wish to goodness that they would have let us tear the goal posts down. I know they are so expensive to replace, but how amazing of a picture would that have been, from 1-10 to 5-5(hopefully 6-5) in only a year, and going into next season with tremendous support of the student body. I haven't ever been to a Liberty game like the one we played today. We executed, worked hard every down, and finally decided to hit. I am so proud to be a part of this, and I can't wait to see what next year and the future hold.

God Bless - Go Flames!

Real football at FSU? They just got beat 30-0.

Sorry Dallas, I had to.

The fans around us were good today. They cheered the entire time and we never got any crap from anyone. The trainers for CSU that were in front of us joked with us during the game.

You might have to move over with us next year.

I was dancing pretty good today. We slow danced during halftime, and almost got hit by a d-----bag who threw a football.

I thought even the CSU players took it well. We had a couple guys we were riding hard, mostly Kenny the Clipboard (#10, backup QB) and some gave it back.

That's how we do it. All in good fun. Some people just don't understand it.

speaking of that of the dumb things that LU does, how come we play garth brooks at the bball games and other slow songs that they play in convo. how come we can't play hip-hop. i was told that the lynchburg side complains about the hip hop.

question.. do we play music for the fans or the players? and if we do play for the fans, should we play for the student side or the lynchburg side? i think that it is a little rediculous that we have to listen to that crap that they played today.

Considering the Lynchburg side brings in the money, that's who they listen too.

I can somewhat understand that. It's just how our school is.

If you want hip-hop, you're gonna have to go old school when it was still clean for the most part or you're gonna have to go with Christian hip-hop.

Last year I went to Longwood for the basketball game and the refs were making some bad calls so I was giving it to them and I was told I wasn't being a good witness. So, I yelled Jesus loves you even if you are a horrible ref. It's garbage how we aren't allowed to yell and heckle other players in good fun without getting upset. We're not swearing at them and we're not flipping them off. I don't mind yelling at a coach that he is balding or yelling at Buzz Peterson during basketball games about how he's been fired in the past. His wife last year yelled at me because I'm at a Christian school and I'm getting personal. What's the fun if it's not personal? Yelling "Go Go Go Liberty Go" with the cheerleaders? Yeah right. It's all in good fun but because we're Christians we're not allowed to have fun.

You can't yell this year so stop whining, that's my job.

I hate stupid Liberty people. I hate stupid Christians. I'll leave it at that.

I can't yell at football games for reasons you know... I'm not sure other people on here know, but techinically nobody is supposed to know. There are three rules, and one of them is never talk.

But come basketball season it's on... and no more stealing your men's wearhouse jokes... it was just too good just to let go and not be yelled.

Most of the students feel the same way we do. It's just a matter of the modern students (and I still say the freshmen and sophs here are completely different than the upper classmen who are completely different than the alumni) having different views, ESPECIALLY with music, than the alumni and Jerry and those guys.

It's how you go about your support for the other team.

Some of the older people don't understand "good natured ribbing." Tell them 'yes ma'am' or 'yes sir' and keep on with your business.

half the kids that do cheer say stupid things, like scoreboard when were up by 1 TD in the first half, or trying to talk trash right after they score.

idk, i dont care about ribbing, but i think at the hockey game on friday night there were a couple people taking it to far with the adding "you suck" to the end of a line of a song, etc. I mean granted, the maryland team did suck, but to a state school coming in thinking were the most christian school and then to see were like other schools just doesnt send a good message. Like i know it gets old, but you really are representing more than you and your little group of friends, your giving all christians a bad name. Like call me lame or whatever, but like from experience , just the one phrase effects the entire view of christians.

I understand not adding You Suck at the end of the Hey Song. It got so bad that a lot of places have banned that song. I know exactly who you were talking about adding that though.

what's wrong with "you suck"? if you can't tell a team they are bad then what's the point of talking trash?

Well coming from this ol' fogie, "baptist" or whatever you wanna call us......I love the yelling!! If these other folks were at any of our away games, they would see and hear how much we get harrassed!!! Plus we're not the only ones, every other school does it ~ you can even hear it on a televised game. It's all in fun folks!! When we heard you guys shouting, "over-rated" and "put the flag down!" you had our whole section in stitches!! You entertain us!!!! Thx!!! btw....like my pictures, eh SuperJon?

Guys:

This subject is out of control. We wre normal Human Beings it is only natural to cheer for your Team. Give it a rest you Hyper Fundi's!!
Listen 20 years ago I wore a Liberty Uniform in Lacrosse on the road and you would not believe some of the stuff said to me. In any sport you are going to have negative things said by both Teams fans on the field. It is how you handle it that sets us a part from the non Christians of the world. There is nothing wrong with this word "Suck" unless it is used in a certan manner or context. God never said we could not support our Team. In sports you have this kind of stuff. When you start using four letter words and the Lord's name in vain then you have crossed the line. I know in a Lacrosse game last spring at LU some of the Lynchburg College fans said some nasty things with four letter words and that kind of stuff is unacceptable.

Remember who we represent. Representing the Lord does not mean we are to become sticks in the Mud and not mean we can't get excited. If anything it means that as fans we give it all the way, like our Teams do and then we need to leave it on the field.

All the best,

Congrats to Flames Football,

Thelaxman

You have to remember, to our parents' generation, "you suck" means a completely different thing than it does to us. That's why they don't like us using the word "suck" when we are yelling.
