And, there it is. 12 K, 113 pitch, perfect game. First in Mariners history.

Understandable. There have been 23 perfect games thrown in the 135 year history of Major League Baseball. 6 of them have been thrown in the past 4 years, including 3 already this season. There have also been 15 no-hitters (including the perfect games) thrown since the beginning of 2010. I heard Mike & Mike (who I generally don't give any credance to) link the increase to the banning of amphetamines. Players are more tired than they were in the past. I could definitely see how that could cause a spike in no-hitters and perfect games.

Plus, there's the fact that the Rays exist.

I think 3 out of the last 6 have been against us.

At least the last two PGs have been thrown by top-line pitchers in Cain and King Felix. When guys like Phil Humber, who hasn't even been able to hold his rotation spot, are throwing the perfectos, you know there's a fluke factor involved.

That could be it. The Rays also got no-hit by Edwin Jackson in 2010.

And he got it with 8 walks too. Jackson had pitched for Rays shortly before that too.

I think every year we've been no hit, we went on to make the playoffs. So there. :D

Felix is now the only pitcher to win a Cy Young, throw a perfect game, and hit a grand slam.

What happens when a guy from Chicago, who now lives in Seattle takes his 9 month old son Bode to their first baseball game together? His hometown White Sox throw a perfect game.

What happens when that guy's brother visits from Texas and that guy gets to take Bode, now a little over 1 year old, to his second baseball game? The Mariners throw a perfect game.

I hope the kid appreciates it when he's old enough to.

The Rays come back from 8 down to win 10-8.

The magic is back!

Not to mention we are 8-1 against the Angels this year.

The Red Sox look like they're about to rid themselves of a clubhouse cancer (Beckett), terrible contract (Crawford) and terrible player (Punto). They had to sacrifice Gonzalez to get it done.

In return, they're clearing 1/4 of a billion dollars in salaries owed and receiving four of the top 10 prospects in the Dodgers organization.

I love this deal after looking it over. Maybe Ben Cherington is a genius after all. Now he just needs to fire the worst manager in baseball (Valentine) and bring in somebody new to run the show. Also, they need a pitching coach. How about throwing some of that money at Dave Duncan and see what happens?

I heard about this trade and it sounds huge. I don't follow baseball much after July 4 because that's traditionally when theCubs are eliminated but this does put abuzz back in the air.

It's a big reboot for the Red Sox and is settin them up for the future. There's a chance they could be competitive next year, but this is more for 2014 and beyond.

I like it. Finally the management realizes the players were the problem, not Francona or the Front Office. And I say that in an attempt to be objective.

The Red Sox don't have to rebuild, they just have to make smarter decisions with their money. The Rays don't have a ton of talent, but they play as a family. The Red Sox are currently filled with players who are only interested in themselves.

Judging by how the Cubs have been playing since the trade deadline, I don't have a ton of hope for them next year either. :(

I have to say, I'm sick of the "blockbuster" trade stuff from ESPN. I mean honestly other than Boston, and LA, who cares? It just so happens those are the only two places ESPN cares about, so I guess that's why they're all caught up in it.

CB Buckner pulled a Sam Holbrook tonight. At some point umpires have to start getting fired for being completely incapable of understanding the game, especially their role in it.

Nationals and some other team I forget.

I realize he's drinking the Nationals kook aid but when you throw your helmet, 80% of the time you're gonna get tossed.

Having that, CB Buckner is an idiot. The players and fans alike hate him.

Nats vs Marlins. Harper already had 2 HR, it's the top of the 9th with the Nats up 8-4, Werth is on 1st with nobody out and Harper up. Bryce grounds into a close double play and spikes his helmet in frustration at doing so. Doesn't say a word to the ump, doesn't even look at the ump after the out call, and Bucknor immediately (with a comical windup) throws him out. It was a clear case of an umpire having no clue what was going on in the game and making sure that the spotlight was on himself instead of the game. The video shows Harper turning around, starting to walk back to the dugout, realizing the 1st base coach is screaming at Bucknor, figuring out that he had been tossed and saying "For what?"

As Adam said, Bucknor is an idiot.
