You might be able to throw Central Arkansas into that sore thumb mix.

Perhaps. But they are so wet behind the ears that they are still a bit different beast than the four I mentioned above. CAU is still thrilled to be where they are and with the current alignment. SHSU, SFA, Lamar & McNeese? No so much.

FBS or not, the chances of Virginia Tech ever coming to play at Liberty are nil. There are advantages to playing a game in the 757 for the Hokies. Not in the 434.

Yeah thats what they stated in the article. 757 is a big recruiting zone. However game attendants would be VERY high, "dont you think" especially for students from both teams? But i guess Tech doesnt make much off our attendents at Williams stadium.

Agreed... It's up to Liberty to put the 434 on the college football map. Every now and then you'll have a Texas play at UCF or a Miami (Fla.) scheduling to play at Toledo (in 2015), but games like that are for recruiting purposes only. Since Lynchburg is considered a 'non-FB hotbed', Liberty have to build their "football weight" up in order to have one of the big boys agree to a home-and-home series.

The main reason VT is trying to do a home-and-home with ODU and not us is because VT recruits that area heavily. The last time VT got someone they wanted from Lynchburg was Logan Thomas.
His cousin Zack McCray went the following year and was almost as heavily recruited.

Oh, You mean their Starting Quarterback, and their top tier NFL prospect Quarterback?

If you really want to dig deep on the whole Recruiting, Tech & ODU thing here's some food for thought. A vast majority(not all, but most) of the kids in the Hampton, norfolk, (largest populated Tri city area on the east coast) area are from a somewhat lower income deomgraphic. If your a kid that wants his Mom, Dad, Uncles, Brothers, Sisiters, Cousines and 2nd Cousins freinds etc. to Watch you play and you can play FBS football near your home town where everyone can afford to come see you what would you pick? I'd pick ODU!

Looks like Loyola (MD) just left he MAAC for the Patriot League. The Patriot League will now have 10 members in 2013-14 with Boston U also joining. Could cause some more dominoes to fall up north.

From the Richmond Times Dispatch today:

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/co ... r-2154491/
First-year Liberty University football coach Turner Gill on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Flames' desired shift from FCS to FBS will be accomplished in the next four years. LU has declared itself FBS-ready, and awaits an invitation from an FBS league, a requirement for FBS membership.

Asked about his message to recruits regarding the Flames' potential move to college football's top tier, Gill's response included, "If you decide to come here within the next four years, then we will be FBS."

Liberty athletics director Jeff Barber said of his coach's projection, "I think that's very likely."

That's kind of frustrating but exciting at the same time. Exciting that they have confidence of the move, frustrating that it could be 4 years.

Unfortunately in this microwave culture, Im sure there are others who feel the same way Kricket. Im looking forward seeing us move up , but at the same time, I want to have the patience and trust in the administration to make that move when the time is right.

Bottom line, we have to start make some noise in the FCS playoffs. I believe this could help change people's views about Liberty... I'm not talking about people changing their views on LU's religious beliefs, t.v. market, etc. I'm talking about from a football point of view. If Liberty became "regulars" in the FCS playoffs, it would definitely help boost Liberty's 'athletic value', if you will.

I know 4 years isn't bad, but I don't think there's anything wrong with hoping it happens sooner.

It isnt. Im just saying that if we dont see immediate results, we should continue to trust the people working behind the scenes know what they are doing

Obviously they're one of the main reason we're even talking about this. It would take a fool to not recognize that. At the same time, our administration is only one side of the coin. Relying on an FBS conference for an invite kind of vexes me. Either way, hearing that they are confident it will happen in the next 4 years is exciting. I'd be ecstatic with MAC, Sun Belt, or C-USA, all for very different reasons. C-USA would be the strongest of those conferences, Sun Belt we'd be competitive right away and have good recruiting areas allowing us to build up strength, and the MAC I could drive to most of the games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for making noise in the playoffs. Heck, it would be nice to get in the playoffs. But I don't think success on the field actually adds much if any value towards landing an FBS conference invite, if that was your point. Just ask App State. It sure didn't help them.
