I'm just saying the embellishment for this story as a whole from the media is silly.

Same thing I thought when there were people on Facebook trying to get people to not shop at Target because of the amount of money they give to gay rights.

Well I think the story is older than most people realize. The Dan Cathy interview was just sort of the final piece of it all. I'd agree that the interview portion has been made way too much of, but now that the fire has been started it's hard to blame the media for covering it. If it gets us talking here then it generates advertising dollars for them. Mission accomplished.

I know most of you know this but the liberal media is obsessed with the whole gay issue because it's their desperate attempt to be relevant in life... they desire for this to be their "civil rights" movement.

Only problem is that you can't choose what skin color you are. You can choose who you sleep with.

Yes, I can choose who I sleep with. What I can't choose is who I'm attracted to. The problem most Christians and churches aren't getting is the fact that people in general aren't identifying but the behavior but by the attraction. I know a few guys that have decided that due to their attractions that God has called them to be single and celibate, yet they will still identify as gay. Thus when they hear "gays go to hell," (yes, that is generalization and oversimplification, but it makes the point) from the pulpit, it will turn someone who is attracted to the same sex away from Christianity, regardless of whether or not they are having sex.

Problem with this theory is, most of the people battling obesity tend to be supportive of anti-gay rights measures

Yes, and we can agree to disagree on some others.

I think we should all share our "When I chose to like women" stories. How old were you guys when you decided to like women? Do you remember where you were at the time?

3'rd grade. But nice attempt at a red herring. :D

If God is truly ominbenevolent, then He cannot create a sinful creature. God knows no sin, as God cannot sin. It is the sin nature, and free will to choose that causes us to sin. To me, it's a contradiction to say that God predestined someone to sin. This why I reject the "I was born that way theory." If I murder, another thing that the Bible states explicitly as sin, can I blame God for being born to commit murder? If so, God had then lied about who He claims to be. Yet, I believe He didn't.

It's sort of a silly thing anyway, because homosexuality is no more of a sin than any other. It's no worse than heterosexual lust. And Jesus gave His life so that we could be cleansed of all unrighteousness to those who seek forgiveness through Him.

It's not a red herring because it's not irrelevant. It's quite relevant to what you and ATrain were just discussing, in fact.

Who gave us the sin nature and free will? How'd they get there if God didn't put them there?

So, to be clear, you're comparing the urge to murder with sexual attraction?

And yet we're not tirelessly working to pass bans to keep liars from engaging in business deals. We're not working to pass laws to ensure that gluttons should only be able to follow traditional biblical diets.

Sin nature was passed on through biological functions because of Adam and Eve's decision to sin. God gave us free will to choose between right and wrong. God does not choose our lives for us, or else there would be no responsibility to choose whether we will accept or reject Him. Adam and Eve chose wrong, therefore sinned. God is not the author of sin, or he cannot be omnibenevolent, and thus is a liar.
So, to be clear, you're comparing the urge to murder with sexual attraction?
Not at all, and I think you know that. What I am saying is that the wages for sin is death. The Bible is clear that sin is sin. There are no degrees.
And yet we're not tirelessly working to pass bans to keep liars from engaging in business deals. We're not working to pass laws to ensure that gluttons should only be able to follow traditional biblical diets.
Uhm, why should we? Investors should learn to be wise with their money, and also we have many laws against outright fraud. Also, I've said before federalism solves this problem. If an individual state wants gay marriage, that's perfectly fine. But let's not pretend the Bible isn't clear on this subject. The thing is, homosexuality (by that I mean acting on those temptations) is no different than any other sin, just as hetrosexuality. And come to think of it, I'm not really sure what we're arguing over. At least it makes sense to me.

I hate the idea of Gay Sex, I dont like most gay people I meet. I think its morally wrong and a sexual perversion. I also believe there are stats that would point to most gays dealing with traumatic circumstances in their lives at some point.

I dont think the government should ban them from being married.
#397829
I mean I don't understand it but as long as they don't bother me I really don't care. And in about 90% of instances they don't. As long as they don't get in my face about it, it's no problem for me.

I guess I can't stay away.

I mean, if people are going to argue that the attraction is a choice, then it does seem relevant.

I have to say the last part is pretty impressive considering the first.

I'm not going to offer any anecdotal evidence to try and argue with what you said in the first part. I just think it's very wrong. Particularly the part about traumatic circumstances.

of course you can't. there is much more to it than attraction. we are all initially genetically predisposed to further our species. attraction to the opposite sex is a natural process by which we accomplish this task. i think the word choice is the wrong word to use here. i think it can be choice in some instances but i don't believe Atrain was pre-natally any more gay than i was. (genetically predisposed). post natal outside influences and experiences guide us into the people that we become and in the end God will sort it all out.

I will eat chick fil a because chick fil a sauce is the greatest condiment ever invented, not because i support some cause.

that being said regardless of the reason why, anyone who stands in line longer than 20 minutes for some is dumb.

In a study of 900+ Gay men, 47% admitted to being sexually abused as a child.
In that same study , 7% Straight men admitted to being sexually abused as a child.
Its not in every case, I just think the statistaics show its a definate reality.

Again, I dont think its the governments responsibility to take away the rights of those people based on a moral issue.
