No way BJ, this place would just fall apart and be nothing without you. Well, you and jbock that is, I don't want to forget him. Between the 2 of you this place is filled with vast knowledge and amazingly thought out viewpoints.

Either that or posts like the one above where you take yourself so seriously cracks me up so much that it would make this place incredibly boring.

Either way, you weren't poster of the year a few years back for nothing!! On top of all of that you have HMO as an agent!!! It probably is an insult to lump jbock in with you. I apologize for that. Your greatness is unrivaled!

Not trying to toot my own horn, but if I stop paying attention this place, it will literally cease to exist. Just want to be clear about that.

This is enough to power 2 freezers and nothing else. I understand when gas stations run low but being 2,000 dollars it wouldn't make much difference. It would cheaper to just eat out and replace rotten food for 30 years by the time it becomes cost productive.

•Backup critical appliances - refrigerators, freezers & home health care equipment - CPAP machine.

When I saw that first line on the description of the product I thought it read CRAP machine. By the way JB - it's not always about food when it comes to generators. Some people have medicine that has to be refrigerated. During hurricane Irene last year, I was able to pick up the last generator in town and take it to my parents house in the 757 and ride out the storm. I was really disappointed with Irene's performance too by the way. Isabelle was more intense.

I understand the medicine but you'd be able to run two freezers and nothing else. My two freezers run at 1150 watts. Maybe an extra lightbulb?

I guess it depends on where you live and your anticipated access to other fuel sources. For people like my parents, some electricity would be better than none. Stockpiling fuel isn't really an option and they're out some distance from fuel sources anyway.

That is true Scorcho.

I have 3 extra 5 gallon tanks out in shed, and it doesn't go to waste because the mower will eat it up over the summer. I just use an additive to keep the older gasoline from damaging the engine.

It's three days worth of gas, but I don't plan to run it the entire time either.

Humble, fellow weather nerd, do you notice what I'm seeing on the GFS and Euro models coming around Halloween?

Details to come later. Possibly a tropical system. And for some, possibly a very cold* tropical system.

*maybe snow

Euro and Canadian models are showing Sandy crushing the tidewater area, then moving up into Pennsylvania.

Closely monitor the situation. And I haven't even begun to discuss possible snow for Western Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, etc.

Here's an excellent, detailed breakdown of what to look for over the next few days before believing anything about this potential monster storm. It's a DC centric post, but they do a good job of including the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions as a whole.
I don't have any disagreements. Pretty fair piece.

The snow for southwest virginia doesn't look as likely now. Although, it is not entirely out of the question. All of it will depend on how large the moisture band reaches, and how much cold air rushes behind the system. The threat for snow will be along I-81 and west.

The experts I linked who put it at about 20% chance of anything and 5% chance of something severe for the Mid-Atlantic. These guys have nailed nearly every big storm in the region for the last 3 years. The various models simply cannot project storms this far out.
