There are 11 teams in the BSC and there were 8 teams that bunted (sacrificed) more than us. Coastal had 76 bunts and Campbell had 58 and they had the best offense in the league. We had 42 sacrifice bunts. LET IT GO!

That doesn't take into account how many attempts we tried. Also, Coastal played tougher competition, therefore played closer games, therefore bunted more.

Maybe if we bunted more, like Coastal, maybe we could win the conference. I guess I've been around baseball as a player and a high school coach and I guess I tend to favor the bunt because of the pressure it puts on the defense to make the play, especially if you're blessed with speed. I keep hearing that bunting takes us out of a big inning. Nothing takes you out of a big inning (which is NEVER guaranteed) like a double play. Moving the runner up on a sac bunt is playing the odds. Nope, I was just reminding you that Campbell didn't win.

Coastal bunts more because they play higher competition. So they play closer games. So bunting actually makes sense in those situations.

I like you Chippy, but I just hate Toman's coaching philosophy. As a Rays fan, I've seen a lot of wacky ideas work (Joe Maddon). But bunting when you're down by 3 in a championship game isn't one of them. It's beyond stupid.

I didn't see Toman at the golf tourney Friday. I saw Layer, Gill, Olinger, almost the entire football staff, coach thomas, carey green, and some others. Maybe he doesn't play golf or something but is there anythign to that? I would think you'd want all coaches at that. It was very well done btw, Turner presents himself as a much more down to earth guy that Danny did (not that it's a big deal, just a observation).

Yes shortstop is probably our biggest need along with pitching. Zach did well this year but he doesn't really have the range you want at SS like Matty had.

to a degree I was...but as I said, its easy enough to get a rise out of you because of your dislike of Toman (and some of his in game decisions which I will agree left me wondering many times too). So when I saw a top 5 team doing the same thing, I figured it'd bring you to the table again. When a bunt (or hit and run or any sort of strategic baseball maneuver), the coach is a genius, or a maverick, or something along those lines. When it doesn't work, of course people are gonna question it (with good reason in some cases), course, Baylor ended up losing that game but that's because both sets of pitchers are putting up 0's like they were goin out of style and in that situation, youre gonna have to scratch something out any way possible.

Grant and Henderson haven't signed yet with a few days left (July 15 deadline). I think they are likely coming which is great news.

Henderson has not received his offer from the Dodgers yet. They wanted to see him against some top notch competetion first so he is playing with the Penninsula Pilots (and Danny Grauer) in the Coastal Plain League and tearing it up against older D1 pitching. He wants to sign, his parents are not so sure. There may be some other factors in play here. Time will tell.

Toman said after the BSC that we had left handed hitters coming in......

3 left-handed hitting freshman coming in including Henderson. Also a left handed JUCO outfielder who hit for average and stole a decent amount of bases. One JUCO lefty pitcher sounds like he will be counted on but what could make or break the staff next year may be two pitchers who came in last year after being injured in high school and having Tommy John. Both Adam Parks and Kyle McKelvey were low 90's guys that will be needed next year.

Shortstop could remain an issue after Licon signing after the draft and no apparent replacement for Haley on the roster.

Henderson hopes to use the time with the Peninsula Pilots to prove his worth and, based on his start, has probably only improved his negotiating ability.

He has played four games for the Pilots, starting two, and is 7 for 12 with a home run and three stolen bases. He went 2 for 2 in his debut, singling up the middle in his first at-bat against a college pitcher and catching a low line drive in right field.

"Yeah, that felt good," Henderson said of the fast start.

Known for his hitting, Henderson is focused on showing - and improving - his defense. He's playing right field, as opposed to center, which he played in high school.

"I've already learned a lot," said Henderson, who will go to Liberty if he remains unsigned. "The pace of the game, everything is faster. The way the college guys approach the game, the little adjustments they make, the way they think."
