Incorporated in a potential move for Liberty is expansion of its stadium to 35,000. The Flames have drawn very well as is, the result of a solid on-field product.

If stage 2 is 6-7,000 seats, I would think stage 3 is at least 10,000. May be closer to 12,000.

Also, if we play teams like ODU, App State, etc. they will bring fans with them. Do you think it's a coincidence that most of our most attended games are W&M and JMU?

I don't care if Appy and ODU were FCS. We would still draw huge numbers. It would be much more prudent if we were in a conference with regional rivalries like these.

Grand Canyon to the WAC?

1st step: Grand Canyon University recently made formal application with the Western Athletic Conference to get D.I status.

The WAC probably encouraged this move to have more western candidates for all-sports. Supposedly Texas - Pan American is being considered as well. If you add these two along with Utah Valley and CSU - Bakersfield, the new WAC could look like this:

Idaho
New Mexico St.
*Denver
*Seattle
*Boise St
*Utah Valley
*CSU – Bakersfield
(Grand Canyon)
(UT – Pan American)

* non-football
( ) candidate

What does this mean for us and the other eastern schools? It's too early to tell. If all above holds true, this probably mean the WAC is only looking at the eastern schools to hold space until Montana and the other Big Sky schools begin to move up.

The whole process is like a reality version of the game Battleship. lol. Man, if Hurd pulls this off, crown that man!

That would only be for non-football members. Frankly it would have little impact on any of their football plans except that it could keep the league alive.

First Grand Canyon tries to take that Massachusetts campus and now they are in the WAC discussion. I have to admit that I didn't see us linked beyond being online success stories.

I didn't know anything about GCU until now. After doing some research, I think we need to keep them in our rear view as they appear to be a sleeping giant. I already see this a huge rivalry in the making, and that has nothing to do with athletics. Just one small example, we had Truett Cathy at graduation, GCU has Dan speaking on campus in July.

Grand Canyon has a previous relationship with the WAC. GCU used to play in the league as a baseball affiliate. Note: Grand Canyon is in West Phoenix and nowhere near the Grand Canyon itself.
