A third option is rebuilding the WAC with programs from the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) that could be pressured to make the jump to the Football Bowl Subdivision level (Division I-A).Boston = NMST AD
It has been reported a new 10-year moratorium could be implemented for programs looking to make such a move, meaning they either jump soon, or risk biding their time - for a while - before such an opportunity comes again.
Schools such as Montana and Montana State, Eastern Washington, Cal-Poly, and even an Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, are all possible FCS programs that could look to make such a jump in the near future.
"When you think about reinventing the WAC, you have to look at all possibilities, including looking east and west," Boston said. "The only way FCS schools can move to the FBS level is (by joining) an existing conference. ... That is a strength of the WAC at the moment. We (provide) an (outlet) for FBS football."
