So I don't really understand what that was, at least from Forbes' point of view. It was pretty much a compilation of random information, some out of context, all to make Romney, LU, Chickfila, etc. look like bad guys. No story, or opinion or anything. I get what the author was trying to do but that seems more like an angry blog post rather than a column or whatever it was supposed to look like.

If you read the comments below, you realize that the author was very intentional with the words she used in her article. Her responses to some of the readers' comments is more enlightening as to her bias than the article itself.

And I don't know about the 'open' part... but I know of people at Liberty University that are gay. Some of them are even employees.

I was aware of several students and at least one employee who were closeted when I was there. Being openly gay is another situation entirely. I'd imagine the school would have an issue with that. I'm just curious as to if and how that has been handled in the past.

For the sake of argument, let's leave sex out of it since sex is against the Liberty Way regardless of sexual orientation. Say two guys are openly gay and walk around campus holding hands. Is that something that's allowed?

I would say those 2 dudes in your example aren't in violation of anything other than "counter culture" which in itself is a vague rule that I think exists so that they can give reps against anything they don't like but isn't specifically forbidden. But how is that openly gay? Proclaiming that they are attracted to those of the same sex? I don't think LU has anything against that nor would they consider it gay. Or at least they shouldn't. Acting on that, however, is treated the same way as a heterosexual situation.

The tone of the author changes pretty rapidly throughout the comment section. It's actually embarrassing when someone uses logic to reduce her argument and it's obvious that she can't handle it.

I hadn't read the comments. Some people really beat her into a corner. She should really not respond to comments. The most interesting thing I learned from that whole thing is

I subscribe to the view of NYU’s Jay Rosen: true objectivity in journalism is a myth (you should look up his writing if you have a minute). I myself studied for my MSc at Columbia but we covered his work. Not only is he said/she said journalism futile when trying to ascertain the truth, it’s unrealistic. Journalists are people too. I was raised and educated in a way that means I believe in equal rights. There’s no way to divorce one’s beliefs from one’s writing, and it’s naive (and outdated, academically) to pretend otherwise.

That's what's being taught in journalism schools? Yeesh.

I meant that they're openly gay in the sense that they're not trying to hide the fact that they're in a homosexual relationship and that the two of them are clearly a couple. I'd be surprised if the school would actually be that accepting of it, were it to happen. If so, good for them.

I'm surprised that Forbes has such a writer on their staff. Reading her comments and her background she seems like the ultimate ladder climbing writer who thinks that she will really be someone someday. Very slanted and her replies are very personal- maybe she is destined to be the female Keith Olbermann, since her quality writing is about as entertaining as Olbermann's wacko commentary.

I didn't say they'd be accepting of it. But I really don't understand your hypothetical in where a homosexual relationship is occurring without sex. Is it the attraction and hand holding?

What they're doing behind closed doors is not known, just like in heterosexual relationships. I'm asking about the reaction to an openly gay couple walking around campus together.

Atrain, hallmate was gay on dorm 9 for 2 years. Then, once moved off campus with some friends, one of which was a member of Crimson Flood and he was also gay. It isn't asked. It shouldn't be asked. Why can't homosexuals love Christ too?

I was quoting the article and responding to the line that it doesn't admit openly gay students. I know homosexuals can love Christ, I am a Christ loving homosexual.
