I remember being 21, so much happened at that age. I was also a rabid Republican at that point. Not so much anymore, definitely more centrist now.

If you were a Republican but are now more "centrist" what party are you in?

Maybe you are mixing up your thoughts by using the word "Republican" as a description for your past ideology instead of "conservative"?

Man got to love America. When a young person is actively involved in politics like myself (im a delegate for the state convention) I get told im stupid and my opinion is worthless. But if young people are not involved in politics we are told we do not care. Make up your minds. If you want us involved I advise not calling us stupid and misinformed. All you guys have done is prove my point of the GOP alienating young people. No wonder so many young people voted for Obama you cant blame them when one party calls them stupid and uninformed and the other one embraces them with open arms regardless of political leanings.

Keep up the good work guys.

is there still access to the firehouse at all?
Im naive and I do not understand squat. That sounds like you think my political opinions are stupid but i mean if you have a different opinion of what it means to call some stupid maybe im not the one who is stupid.

I have a feeling i am more politically active then a lot of people on here. Im going to the 6th district convention in May then the State convention after that. I have campaigned for hours upon hours for lots of people. But I bet your right bc you have never met me or know nothing about me I am more than likely naive and dont understand squat.

still trying to figure out where someone called you stupid.....you can not understand a lot of things and not be stupid.

maybe you should list off more of your political accomplishments though. that will go along way in showing us all your amazing grasps.

Being naive is very different then stupid. Naivety will be fixed in 3-10 years after you've experienced real life; worked full time, paid back your loans, taken out some more, got married, maybe fired once. We've all been 21 before and remember when we knew everything and could solve any problem. Trust me once you've lived a little longer you'll learn the world especially the political world is rarely black and white.

Stupid on the other hand is much harder to fix...

PS...I'm still a Paul fan I just don't think he's Jesus Christ

I was just trying to defend myself bc you seemed to be attacking what I believe. No one likes that regardless of age. I may be 21 but i do try to be as educated on the process as I can while juggling school and working in athletics. Sorry if you disagree with my views and think they are naive and that i dont understand squat but they are what they are...my views. If you dont like them then whatever but I will vote for the Constitution which right now is the Libertarian party. If you dont like that then really im sorry but that me.

I cared more about politics when I was 20 then I do now at 29. I am not sure what the says about me, probably that I have become so cynical about it all I guess.

When I was 21 and naive, I was a neocon Republican who thought people like Rush Limbaugh were serious instead of simply trolling for listeners/readers. Now that I've lived in the real world, I've become a true conservative who values the Constitution as the ruling document by which all law should be measured. Now I'm staunchly Libertarian.

I'd just like to point out that I'm a Libertarian, and like Rush Limbaugh because even though I may disagree with him on 3 things, I agree with the other 297.

The typical Ron Paul supporter does not understand how to disagree with anyone. I couldn't tell you, even to this day I get called a neo-con when I say that Paul is wrong on illegal immigration, and that waterboarding is torture, even though I largely agree with his foreign policy. That's the reason I misunderstood what he stood for because of all the nuts out there. Everyday I hear Ron Paul guys talking about the government poisoning the water, government shutting down the internet, bilderberg, people living under the earth, etc. on and on.

To steal from Gandhi: I like Ron Paul, I do not like his supporters. His supporters are so unlike Ron Paul.

Oh, is it neo-con, or neocon? I need a Paul supporter to help me out, is it one hyphen or none? :D

If neocon is namecalling, then so is conservative or liberal. Funny, all I did was state that I've moved to true conservative principles, then the namecalling started in reaction to it from those crying about namecalling.

my problem with the term neo-con (i prefer the hyphen, lol) is that everyone throws it around but no one really knows what it means. also, is there such a thing as a self-identified (i think i just like hyphens in general) neo-con? is there anyone who goes around actively calling themselves that?

self-identfication is huge in determining whether something is an insult or an actual name for something.

my question is what actually IS a neo-con?

also there's nothing wrong with being naive. its hopeful and inspiring. people who don't believe they can change anything...don't.

Neo = New. Neocon = New Conservative.

That's all. It's a distinction between the original/true conservatism of small government, fiscal responsibility, and non-interventionist foreign policy and the new conservatism of an ever expanding DHS, deficit spending that is excused as long as it's for "security," and perpetual war by creating enemies wherever and whenever necessary. On most issues there's agreement on where problems exist, it's just a matter of disagreement on the Constitutional role government can legally play in dealing with those problems.

so
old school conservatives = classical liberals + social conservatism
neo-cons= modern liberals + social conservatism
