Antwan Burrus (right) and the Flames return to the Vines Center court this Saturday to host George Mason. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The following article was first featured in the November edition of Flames Illustrated. Heading into this Saturday's home game against George Mason, Liberty forward Antwan Burrus has started 7-of-10 contests and is averaging 8.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Flames.

Entering his first season at Liberty, Antwan Burrus knew the transition from high school basketball to the college level was not going to be easy. Early on, the forward from Winterville, N.C. waited for a chance, remembering the words of his new coach Dale Layer.

"Coach always talked about being ready," recalled Burrus. "You just never know when you are going to get called to go in or when you are going to have a chance.

"I just tried to be ready and when I was put in the game, make the best of the situation."

We go as far as he can take us next year. I'm looking forward to a breakout season from the best post player we've had since Alex McLean.

If Antwan has to play any significant minutes in the post next year, it will not bode well for the team IMHO. He's 6'6" 220. That's not d1 size for a 5. With Coronado, Sommy and JVP, we should be able to move him full time to PF where he belongs, and he should be an absolute beast there. He is our best returning player, and we will count on him to be productive as well as a leader, but I actually think the performance of our guards is more key to how well we do.

6'6" 220 isn't too bad. But I'm thinking he tips in a bit more then 220 at this point.
Also, this goes back to the being big v playing big argument.

Antwan was 210 as a Freshman, and was absolutely ripped. Last year he balooned to 235, looked heavy, and it clearly slowed him down. Listed at 220 this year, and I think that's a good weight for him.
