I believe the conferences enter teams before the season starts and then ESPN pairs them together after they see how things are going. LU with a healthy Sommy and JB was expected to be a pretty competitive team this year.

Nope he was banned until 2005, but he was arrested in Farmville after an OT loss to Longwood when I was a student: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2755103

He knocked over the waitress b/c Mulligan's (the bar) said they couldn't make 40 philly cheesesteaks and they gave him ham sandwiches instead. He took the sandwiches, didn't pay, went on the bus and took off. The whole team bus was pulled over on 460, haha.

He was also suspended earlier this year for allegedly hitting a player. How he still has a job is beyond me.

The good thing is its a completely meaningless game in the grand scheme of things. Of course, its always better to win especially this time of year.

All 11 Big South teams are participating in BracketBusters this year.

Ok, now that you mention it I remember him going to the NCAA's. Didn't bother to check the article because you credentials are impeccable! Did they have to 'Show Cause' to hire him or did that go away with his suspension?

When they made the matchups, we drew a weak Delaware State team. Now DSU is red hot and has won 7 straight. They play at their conference leader Norfolk State tonight, but it will be interesting Saturday night here anyway. I'm more interested to see if we can land a game against Maryland or Georgetown next year as part of going up there to do the return game in November or December. Tennessee Tech still owes us a return game from last years Bracetbuster game in Cookeville.

I believe the return games are "asked" to be 2 seasons later. VMI will host Morgan St. next Winter, and VMI will go to W&M in Nov./Dec. 2013.

Why ESPN would even consider having any games featuring teams not even capable of making the CBI Tournament is the better question. ESPN can't possibly be making much of anything off of this game...

It seems as though the whole concept of BracketBusters is sort of like "Hey mid-majors, have a decent year and you might get ONE game on ESPN this year".

Otherwise, it doesn't make sense. High Point is playing Stephen F. Austin. Why? The game is completely meaningless, (as is ours), and they probably have to charter a plane to get out there, and to come back.

I know that the teams have no control over who they play, but it still makes no sense to participate unless you are actually a descent mid-major team looking for additional TV coverage (and perhaps a quality win). Otherwise, it's totally pointless.

It's the Sears Bracketbuster. ESPN isn't spending a dime on our game as it isn't even on ESPN3. ESPN has the rights to broadcast the games they consider good enough once the season has progressed enough that the matchups get finalized and the games worthy of TV are obvious. Sears foots the bill with the advertising dollars.

And considering Sears also owns KMart you can now understand why the quality isn't that good.
Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week!

If not for the Kenmore and Craftsman brand names, Sears would have been history 20 years ago, much like Montgomery Ward.

Agreed. Too bad that Craftsman tools aren't what they once were.
